Is it just me, or is Joe Tessitore the most dramatic, fake, loud, irritating, cringe announcer at ESPN?

I think Herbstreit is incredibly good at breaking down plays and showing what's going on in the replay. He seems to always catch fouls during the actual play. It amazes me really. Whoever is in second place as a color guy is really really far back there.

You do realize that the network pays 3-4 (or more) guys to scan the field with binoculars for fouls and feed that to the announce team, correct?

One watching the line. One watching the QB. One (or more) on the receivers.

At least that is the way it used to be done. I don't imagine the technology has changed that much, but I guess you could do it with dedicated camera feeds to different people focused on different areas of the field

His announcing is Beth Rowland terrible
He sounds like he gets so excited like my dog, and pisses himself! Beth is probably a very knowledgeable and nice lady, but voice sounds like boy going into puberty or an elf.

There are other candidates, but this guy.... 🤮

You don't need to say it. I turned down the volume.
I hate listening to all announcers. When the game was about to start, he was saying, in a monotone low voice, here comes ASU onto the field. Then he started almost screaming and here comes Texas. I told my wife, I gotta mute this game because the announcers are all gonna pull for Texas. It's really obvious with pretty much every game being televised by ESPN

It's always so shocking to me how much people hate commentators. It's one of those jobs that people seem to think anybody can do, so they don't adequately respect how f-ing hard this job actually is.

You wanna criticize Danielson? I don't really get how he has such high profile jobs. Fine.

You wanna say a certain guy annoys you? Fine.

But if you're *****ing on guys who are institutions, or you're one of those guys who doesn't like anybody...why? People actually think Fowler is bad at his job?

Herbstreit is good. He's a little boring personality-wise. He's doing NFL and college which means he is doing so much work. I believe he's become more skilled with this experience, but I also feel like he doesn't have adequate prep time. I feel like he knows the players less now.

The fact that this thread exists is a perfect example of how bad Tessitore is in the same way that officials doing a bad job end up being a distraction from the game. If a great football game goes by and you don't remember much about the officiating, the officials probably did a great job. Also similar to a reporter shouldn't become part of the story. I'm generally pretty tolerant of sportscasters and their biases. I usually don't see the same things a lot of folks see in biased broadcasting. I get the feeling listening to Tessitore, his goal isn't to do a great job broadcasting. His goal is to show the audience he is a great broadcaster.

Who was the female announcer they had last year calling college games. Glad that did not last long.

He does this because someone said people like Gus Johnson are actually good at their jobs and should be copied. Tessitore didn't used to call games like this. I find it annoying as well.

Kirk’s not terrible at calling games. He’s a company man and has carried water for ESPN now for three decades for better or worse. He’s seen the sport and the business around college football grow exponentially during his time at ESPN. I don’t agree with all his takes, but he is knowledgeable about the game of football. He gets in trouble when he’s getting in Twitter fights with fans.

He is amazing at this and if only he could stick to this and say about half as much as he does, he would be my favorite analyst. As it is, I have to turn the sound off to enjoy the game.

They were awesome. JP games were classic too.
Oh yeah! I still remember Ron Thulin and Tim Brando announcing JP games. Great announcers in their own right. Some of the RayCom games were good too.

Yep, he didn't hide who he was for, Texas scored their 1st TD and he shouted to top of his lungs "Hookem Horns"

Aaron Murray joining the competition from the Duke Mayo Bowl (VT-UMN):

I’m not here to criticize Josh Heupel, but his QBs at Tennessee just stand there and take the snap. No way to establish any rhythm just standing flat footed in the shot gun.

I could do without former QBs from UGA and UA as announcers.

Yeah Aaron, I guess when Tennessee finished the last four years ranked #7, #1, #37 (rebuilding year but) and #14th in total offense, they were terrible at establishing a rhythm.
