Is Hendon Hooker still a Heisman contender?

Stroud won before the season ever started.

Everything about his stats last week except the “5” in front of TDs was pedestrian and against a trash team.

He was gifted the front runner this year without taking a snap and because of the weakness of his schedule but a top 3 matchup in an over hyped game year in and year out to round out the season, he’s guaranteed to win.

The thing that sucks is we would benefit from a big Ohio State win over Michigan, and that would entail a huge day from Stroud, pretty much winning the Heisman that day.

What if Hendon Doubled down on breaking the Heisman curse?

1 Avenges Peyton getting robbed
2. Breaks becomes the Second QB to ever win the Heisman and go to the NFL HOF? (the only one that's ever done it was Roger Staubach Of all the other QB's that won the Heisman the next best QB is Cam Newton. Every other one had a severely cursed career and Cams kinda ended cursed.

Almost makes me not want him to win it but meh F that I want one on Rocky Top. Thats the one piece of hardware missing from the UT trophy case.

It's quite a dilemma. If Ohio State beats Michigan, CJ Stroud wins the Heisman Trophy — hands down. And Tennessee probably goes to the playoffs.

If Ohio State loses to Michigan, Hendon Hooker probably wins the Heisman. But Tennessee probably doesn't go to the playoffs.

Which do we prefer? I know where I stand. I'm the Trailer Park Trash that Chris Fowler referenced 25 years ago. I've never forgotten 1997. I couldn't name 5 Heisman winners since then, because the award is basically meaningless to me. I'd love to see Hendon win it — for Hendon. But if it's the Heisman vs. the playoffs, I'll take a CFP appearance.

I think the GA game took out both Hooker and Hyatt from their respective post season awards considerations. They might have given it to Hyatt, but Hooker was never going to get the nod in that award.
they are both legit contenders. Hyatt is putting up video game numbers.. even without the Bama game his stats are nuts. Take away his stats from the bama game and he is still on pace (909 yards and 10 yds) break the single season TD record for UT (13) and break 1000 yards easily. he is a close second in total yards leads in TD's and all the guys with higher yards per catch have like half the number of catches. Its really hard to average 19 a catch with nearly 60 balls. His numbers are nutty and we have USCe and Vandy left.. bowl game will come too late but he will seal all kids of records there likely.

We will make the playoffs many times in the near future. We will win the SECE again and get another natty. we have never had a Heisman.

Will we? I'd venture to say that many of us who were around in '98 felt like there would be many more BCS national championships. Yet, here we are, 24 years later, and we still haven't been back to the pinnacle. Some of the best advice I've ever heard a coach give players is to treat your present team like it's the best team you'll ever be a part of. The future is never guaranteed. I'll take a team award over an individual award every day.

The question for the committee will be this, which two one loss teams deserve a spot.
I think the OSU/Michigan loser gets in unless they lose in a blowout in the game in Columbus.
I think UT gets in against a one loss TCU but not against a one loss USC. (The Trojans would bring a big tv audience from the west coast, TCU would not).
I think UT gets in against a one loss Clemson or UNC. This year our brand is bigger and more exciting.
Our SOS should give us the third spot and the other one loss team the fourth spot.

All we need is for TCU to lose at Baylor or in their conf title game vs KSU and for
USC to lose to either UCLA, ND or whomever they play in conf title game.

What if the team that shuts Stroud/OSU down is the same team Woodson played for? That would be some poetic stuff.

A 12 team playoff and this coach. I like our chances. We are in a good position at QB for the next few years. A natty might be a puch but it ain't happening this year anyway. But playoffs in a 12 team feild I like our chances for the next few years to make that cut. UGA has to find a QB next year and we already have one on the roster with another incoming.

Oh it isn’t close. I love Hendon but the Heisman is a joke of a award. There is zero comparison. National Title and playoffs are a ton more important. And what will make it better is Hendon outperforming him in January and winning it all is that more sweet!!!! GBO!

A one loss USC will never get in the playoff ahead of us with one loss. That became clear when the committee ranked LSU at #6 ahead of them.

What if Michigan wins in similar fashion to how they won last year though? OSU is out of the cfp picture and Stroud is likely out of the Heisman (In my dreams he throws about 3 pick sixes in that game, and Corum has only a modest outing so they don’t sneak him in at the 11th hour).

What worries me about USC is if they beat UCLA, ND, and Utah that the committee would take a 12-1 conference champion over us.
Good news is that I don’t think they will win all 3 of those games.

The narrative I saw yesterday shows credence to the bias against Tennessee arguments. The discussion was regarding Stroud, Hooker and Drake Maye from North Carolina.

They sang the praises of Stroud, didn't mention how horribly he played vs a 1 win Northwestern team. Said he was basically going to win it at this point unless complete disaster struck the last few games.

They sang the praises of Maye. Talked about his numbers. They talked about how rapidly he was rising in the race and talked about how he could easily get to second, and maybe win if Stroud just really played bad and Ohio State lost to Maryland and Michigan.

They said Hooker had almost no chance. Had no chance to have a "Heisman moment" the rest of the year. Talked about how badly he played vs Georgia and how Tennessee wasn't even playing for a conference title while UNC was and Ohio State was favored to play for one.

If people don't believe in bias against Tennessee, seeing things like that should make it pretty clear.

Same with the playoff narrative. They have literally just replaced USC with Oregon and are saying the same thing they were last week about who the Pac 12 champion should be in over Tennessee. Nothing about quality of win, quality of losses or strength of schedule in general. They also had a serious discussion on whether the loser of Ohio State Michigan might still have a chance. Also about LSU jumping Tennessee even with a worse record and blow out loss at home.

The narrative is how other teams around Tennessee can make the playoff but why Tennessee won't make it. One on CBS also used the argument that Tennessee didn't play good enough teams to move the meter the rest of the way but USC finally playing a second ranked team does move it. Completely ignoring that we literally have the best road win in college football in 2022 and one of the top 3 home wins.
