I just don't see it. Our kids are just a couple years older than the Gen Z generation and I don't see the hardships, most of their issues come from their own decisions. Yes, everything is more expensive but wages have never been higher, work easier and more leisure time.

I do like the idea of that generation being more non-interventionalist, I do see that in my kids and think it is fantastic and really hope they carry that mindset into their 40s when they will have the power to effect change.

I think it’s too early to know for sure if the QOL is/will be worse but I do know the data says young people are having a harder time finding quality jobs, they’re buying houses much later (can’t afford to), and are working multiple jobs at a higher % than previous generations. Unless you’re making close to 6 figures you cant really afford to have a house and family off of one income.

No clue how accurate but I read if the minimum wage kept up with inflation it would be around 24$ a hour. So basically inflation has left us in the dust. My grandparents bought a house in the 70s and he was a ditch digger and she was a server at crack barrel. Goodluck doing that nowadays.

Fair enough, I do disagree though. I think if anything it will continue to get progressively worse. Its not like any good news is coming down the pipe.

Hog will probably disagree, and I respect his opinion, but the older generation is completely blind to this. Or they don't care, not sure which.

Its going to create a lot of apathetic people who completely disengage from society (already happening) and it will also probably cause some radicalization as well. Kids were sold a false reality.

I don't know how old you are. And I am not trying to invalidate or gaslight your opinions based on age. But when I was young, my parents had the same lament about the future as you do now. Late 70s. Interest rates were high. Anxiety over gas availability and cost. Unemployment. Socially, more people having babies outside of marriage. The threat of nuclear war. In that moment, there was no way they could have seen the changes and improvements on the horizon. The QOL continues to improve.

Hopefully, your position is like theirs...concerns that never materialize.

Less spending power, lower home ownership rates, more competitive job market, more debt, wage stagnation, hyper inflation, etc. Gen Z will be the first generation where they overwhelmingly have a lower QOL than their parents. Young millennials probably count in this as well.

Let's do this math. I am interested. I agree with Tucke that wages haven't kept pace with inflation. But wages have always lagged inflation increases...at least that is my understanding.

I posted it earlier. Bought a three bedroom house on 2 acres in SW VA on a single income in 1996. That same house today requires the equivalent of two national-average incomes to even get looked at for a loan.

Oh, I meant to share this yesterday.

I saw where years ago Saudi Arabia built a 1200km pipeline to the Red Sea just in case the Persian Gulf was too dangerous to transport.
Has anybody else heard that? If true, then I wonder if/when we will see that be available?

I always wondered about a really short pipeline across the UAE, yeah its a lot more inefficient. but would be reasonably cheap & easy to maintain and would give the UAE a nice middle man cut of the action in situations like these.

when the straight isn't closed, I would imagine the UAE could use it as their standard way on just load their ships on the outbound side of the straight.

I am sure there are reasons it hasn't happened, but it would be interesting to see what it would take.
