Iran

I just don't see it. Our kids are just a couple years older than the Gen Z generation and I don't see the hardships, most of their issues come from their own decisions. Yes, everything is more expensive but wages have never been higher, work easier and more leisure time.

I do like the idea of that generation being more non-interventionalist, I do see that in my kids and think it is fantastic and really hope they carry that mindset into their 40s when they will have the power to effect change.
I think it’s too early to know for sure if the QOL is/will be worse but I do know the data says young people are having a harder time finding quality jobs, they’re buying houses much later (can’t afford to), and are working multiple jobs at a higher % than previous generations. Unless you’re making close to 6 figures you cant really afford to have a house and family off of one income.

No clue how accurate but I read if the minimum wage kept up with inflation it would be around 24$ a hour. So basically inflation has left us in the dust. My grandparents bought a house in the 70s and he was a ditch digger and she was a server at crack barrel. Goodluck doing that nowadays.
I didn't think crack was a thing until the 80's,,,,, she was a real pioneer!

I'd say in most cases you have to be over six figures to even think about it on one income.

Fair enough, I do disagree though. I think if anything it will continue to get progressively worse. Its not like any good news is coming down the pipe.

Hog will probably disagree, and I respect his opinion, but the older generation is completely blind to this. Or they don't care, not sure which.

Its going to create a lot of apathetic people who completely disengage from society (already happening) and it will also probably cause some radicalization as well. Kids were sold a false reality.
Sincerely appreciate the "agree to disagree" approach as a gentleman you're taking.

I don't know how old you are. And I am not trying to invalidate or gaslight your opinions based on age. But when I was young, my parents had the same lament about the future as you do now. Late 70s. Interest rates were high. Anxiety over gas availability and cost. Unemployment. Socially, more people having babies outside of marriage. The threat of nuclear war. In that moment, there was no way they could have seen the changes and improvements on the horizon. The QOL continues to improve.

Hopefully, your position is like theirs...concerns that never materialize.

Ah, see Hog you are proving my point. It hasn't, until now. That's the point.

Less spending power, lower home ownership rates, more competitive job market, more debt, wage stagnation, hyper inflation, etc. Gen Z will be the first generation where they overwhelmingly have a lower QOL than their parents. Young millennials probably count in this as well.
To your point, while some of this will get passed down, inequality continues to rise

Exactly, zero proof of who did it. So let’s go all in on the “I hate my country because I have problem with the guy in charge”. Pathetic

Were you this upset when Iran was killing girls a few months ago. Doubt it, too focused on Trump
All indications are that we did it, there's nothing credible to suggest otherwise. We also did blow up an unarmed ship. Being honest about those things isn't "hating the country," and I would argue it's the exact opposite

Let's do this math. I am interested. I agree with Tucke that wages haven't kept pace with inflation. But wages have always lagged inflation increases...at least that is my understanding.

Was your dad an operator on equipment or was he using a shovel?

Again, my parents bought a house on a single income. Most everyone else I grew up around- with one notable exception, where the dad worked a relatively low-skilled job- bought on one income.

What was the average income then compared to the average home price, across the country? What is it now?

I have no idea how old your parents are

Rooting for failure would be really strange and I say that as someone who opposes the war entirely.

100%. Called the attack on the school intentional, believes our navy could end up “at the bottom of the sea”, compared going into the strait of Hormuz to D-Day, and believes they’re currently winning the war. Also believes the current Ayatollah may live for 37 years or more

He won’t admit it, but he’s cheering for them.

Oh I’m sure you would argue, it would make you feel better about disliking your country

I posted it earlier. Bought a three bedroom house on 2 acres in SW VA on a single income in 1996. That same house today requires the equivalent of two national-average incomes to even get looked at for a loan.

“A single income” tells us nothing. What was that income? And depending on where in SWV a family can live fairly comfortably on $80-$100k per year.

Oh, I meant to share this yesterday.

I saw where years ago Saudi Arabia built a 1200km pipeline to the Red Sea just in case the Persian Gulf was too dangerous to transport.
Has anybody else heard that? If true, then I wonder if/when we will see that be available?
I always wondered about a really short pipeline across the UAE, yeah its a lot more inefficient. but would be reasonably cheap & easy to maintain and would give the UAE a nice middle man cut of the action in situations like these.

when the straight isn't closed, I would imagine the UAE could use it as their standard way on just load their ships on the outbound side of the straight.

I am sure there are reasons it hasn't happened, but it would be interesting to see what it would take.
