I'm not openly spitting on "the military". I never said that it was a welfare state. I said most of it is a jobs program. Most roles in the military are not valuable. Half don't deploy. Few go into combat. Most serve to feed the bureaucracy which is then doubled and tripled by each branch and all of their contractors.

I asked why I am supposed to respect someone's opinion on combat that had nothing to do with it. Nobody has provided an answer.

My logic is flawless. Combat today doesn’t have front lines so even a cook could be risking their life. You didn’t even sign up to be a cook so you have no damn right to degrade a person that did.

Every war we have right now has significant civilian casualties. I'm just as much at risk existing near any military installation as a cook.

We went to college with a guy who was kinda the same. He didn't want to go back, but when we graduated he would be losing his student visa. He was trying to get into a grad school, but wasn't a fabulous student. I wonder where he is now. Really nice guy.

this guy's family was all here so I assume they had refugee or some other status. there was another guy at our high school from Iran - he shoved me behind some bleachers and said he was holding me hostage - I thought it was a pretty good joke. We were both in the soccer club but he was as crappy as we were.

We had a guy in my neighborhood who's family fled when the Shah fell. He was a good soccer player - or good compared to us in 1979 which isn't saying much.

I had an Iranian employee many years ago. He fought in the Iran/ Iraq war. Freeking awesome guy.

Do you? Because in a post you apparently failed to read I noted how there's nuance in my opinion.

All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. Some members of the military deserve respect and have opinions that matter. Many, many others simply don't. I'm not stupid enough to think signing a contract and putting on a uniform means you are immune from criticism.
