It is highly possible that I may have forgotten some of that. Especially since I can’t recall it even as you mention it. But I don’t expect them to be perfect all the time. Kind of a tall task. My thoughts:

if it had been struck those responsible as well as their sponsors would be tripping over themselves to take credit.

If it was sabatoge I might see where the US would want to let this quiet....... But I believe that unlikely.

As the grandson of a Navy man I've heard many stories. A fire in a laundry room doesn't sound too crazy. And any fire damage could be contained but need to be addressed quickly at a friendly port.

The fact we've had so many marquis war vessels in need of repair recently is concerning if we take it at face value.

if you think Iran isn't going to fight to keep their islands you are in for a rude awakening in 20 years when you finally wake up to this being another Afghanistan.

I rather suspect that if we decide to take that island that it will be in tandem with a Kurd movement in the north supported by US air support, Iran would be a lot more worried about the Kurds than us on that Island. The Kurds could start a tidal wave from the north that would roll all the way into Tehran with Iranian support. I believe that that is the way regime change will take place.

The laundry room is deep inside the carrier, well below the water line. If it had been impacted by a strike the damage to the ship would be severe .

If the military is covering something up, it’s much more likely that it was intentionally set by a disgruntled sailor upset that his deployment keeps getting extended. Not that it was a successful strike that the IRGC (and others) would absolutely be crowing about - they’re not

Another possibility that just occured to me, they need to load or unload someone(s) or something(s) at a port they control or trust completely. Again, I find this highly unlikely but a possibility.
