Iran

There's going to be a power vacuum for sure. I hope the aftermath works out well for the people. Not holding my breath.
@EasternVol & @Persian Vol, your usernames and post histories lead me to conclude that you have a broader familiarity with this area of the world than I.

I am curious what your thoughts are as to what will happen for the people of Iran.

Either your thoughts on what you hope happens, or your thoughts on what will actually happen (if the two are different.)

I admit ignorance on the breadth of potential outcomes or implementation steps.

Also, do you have any recommendations on potential sources of reliable information where we can read up on developments that are outside the “mainstream” western sources? (Perspective matters, after all.)

Thanks for any info you can share.

Thanks but @Persian Vol would be far better able to give an informed answer than me.
What I hope happens is that they get as soon as possible a representative and humane government that works for the good of the people. The reason I say representative is that theocracies and autocracies (their current and previous governments) tend to end up as repressive dictatorships even if they don't start that way. Ultimately the ideal is a government chosen by the people and not outsiders.

Nobody cares about the people of Iran, anymore than people care about the people of Venezuela, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Europe, Ukraine, Russia, China, etc. The Jews believe that the Iranian regime posed a more danger threat to them, so you are doing their bidding for them. It really is that simple -- good chance that Iran actually goes more radical.

100% agree. I just don’t see how that happens when the machinery of gov has been so closely controlled for 2 generations+.

I don’t see how the society will get structured enough to have a chance to chose their own leadership without outside help. Once that “help” arrives, I fear the outside influence will closely follow.

At this point, my best hope is that whoever “helps” design the processes and systems that chose new leadership is actually aligned with the people’s choice. Even then, the opposition is going to cry foul.

Actually, its the opposite, the U.S. has historically not wanted these people to elect who they want -- that is why puppets.

I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean institutionally, or do you mean individually?

Individually, I’d say that the fact that I asked about the people of Iran is at least some evidence that I care, and the fact that Eastern, a poster with whom I have frequently disagreed, responded with his/her thoughts shows care as well.

Institutionally, I can see your point. The people are, unfortunately, no more than Soylent Green to the levers of power.

What I mean is the U.S., and generally Americans. You may care to a degree, but your opinion is going to be meaningless, just like mine.

When you say “historically”, what do you mean? I know we were involved in the 1950’s with giving the Shah more power (after a series of chaos with the PM/Parliament system during-post WWII, but the Shah did his thing until 1979. Then, Islamo-state.

Puppet (singular- the Shah) I understand, Puppets (plural), I don’t. Am I missing something? (Again, confessing my relative ignorance on Iranian history, but trying to learn if I am missing something important.)

See the last 50-60 years U.S. foreign policy -- they just hadn't gotten to Iran yet. Apparently, the Jews had enough.
