During the expansion of Alexander the Great we see evidence of Greek culture expanding way beyond the boundaries of the Greek state. With the Romans you see the expansion of Roman culture into England.
I cant day that Ive ever seen the Persian culture persist even into present day Iran. Honestly to me they dont seem to have a culture predating the rise of Islam.
They dont seem to have a culture or that you dont know of a culture?
I completely agree. S Korea has some crack troops - and for exactly the same reason as Israel. Being surrounded by nut jobs who want to kill you probably tends to focus your attention a lot better than ours - especially on the borders.
Right with you on on being from a military family, and both my wife and I are vets (she's retired Navy).
You literally havent said anything other than Iranians are more North Africans than European which you literally pulled out of your ass.
Can you point to a persistent culture?
When I was just out of high school I remember having a few Iranian acquaintances thru a common friend. They referred to themselves as Persian. Not to profess their culture. To misrepresent their nationality to us dumb Americans. That resonated with me. Ive never been ashamed of being an American. And I profess it proudly.
Every Iranian I have ever spoken with, including resident, claims to be a Persian. But Persia ismt a country, or presently a culture by definition, right? Wouldn't a culture be tied to a country or region that currently or recently exists?
Not insulting anyone either...just don't understand. I do know that they seem to do it to distance themselves from Arabs who have darker skin usually...not sure why else.

They dominated many countries, but half of Asia isn't speaking Mongolian to this day. Just because they were invaded doesn't mean the population demographic and culture changed.
The Persian New Years Norooz is over 3000 years old and has roots from Zoroastrianism, predating Islam. This is something unique to Persians and is an example of Persian culture that has transcended millenniums in Iran.
There is nothing incorrect with saying Persian and not Iranian. Persians are the largest ethnic group in Iran, and almost all Iranians in America are Persians. The Iranians in Iran who aren't Persian live in pockets in Iran.
Ras you and I agree on the basic point. America should stay out of nation building. We should focus on our own problems.
However I cant think of a positive thing Ive seen you post about your nation. You come across to me as being apologetic for being born American. Thats chicken **** to me. Plain and simple. Were not perfect by a long shot. But I dont see a better thing going. You come across to me as thinking everybody is smarter than we are. Thats it in a nutshell.
I come from the angle of this country could be a lot better if we simply obeyed our founding documents and principles. You think that America should go around the world spreading freedom and democracy behind the barrel of a gun. I simply disagree with that notion. You (or most of you) think that civil liberties should be sacrificed for safety and security. I simply disagree with that, also. Commerce with all, and alliances with none. Pretty simple concept.
If that makes me repugnant or "chicken ****" it your eyes, oh well. All I ask is that this country fulfills the promise it made to the American people. This country has not done this... and has failed to do it at the expense of our liberties, blood and treasure.

When I asked them where they were from the said Persia. I said you mean Iran? They said yeah but we dont say that in America. Again that just resonated with me. They were hiding their nationality.
Im familiar with Zoroastrianism as an ancient monotheistic religion and belief structure. I cannot say I have ever seen it referenced to current day Iran in any context but do understand its connection to ancient Persia.
Im not just trying to dump on Iran. What we call America has only been around for about 250 years.
But I honestly see nothing in modern day Iran that significantly connects with the ancient Persian Empire.
I tend to agree with everything you said here.
We (the USA) should definitely mind our own business
I couldn't blame them. Whenever you say "Iran" around most Americans after 1979, they will have a negative reaction. Meanwhile, most Americans (probably 99%) will not make the connection to Mossadegh at the UK/American coup.
