iPhone

So my uncle has an upgrade available and he is happy with his non-data phone. If he upgrades to the i5 and then turns it off and gives it to me no harm no foul?

I would do it in the store together. I use other upgrades from different lines on my plan all the time & they don't mind at all. He's essentially signing a 2 year contract & you're getting a phone. Of course somebody has to pay.

I have no issue paying the cost. We are not on the same account that may pose a problem for me.

Probably not. Last Christmas I used an upgrade for my cousin who needed a 4S for his girlfriend. I ordered it online. When I got it I popped the sim out & called to let them know I wouldn't be using the phone & to make sure things stayed the way they was. All they had to do was go to AT&T & get her a new SIM card.

Are you with AT&T now?

The phone subsidy is worked into the contract. If you sign a new 2-year contract, they don't care what device you actually use on the account. Buy a phone and sell it. They have you for 2 years, they don't care.

The problem you may run into is buying the iPhone 5 and the phone plan he has. Not sure how all carriers work but you may run into a situation where he must have XX plan to actually get the iPhone. As mentioned above, this is because the subsidy of the phone is worked into the price of the plan.

Have an upgrade you haven't used for years? The carriers love you. You are paying the subsidy they charge anyway and not buying a new phone at less than wholesale price.

They won't care. The example I used above when I got the phone for my cousin was upgrading from a non smartphone to an iPhone. Like I said I never turned it on just popped out the sim & called AT&T to tell them to make sure things stay put because I wouldn't be using the phone. When I ordered I had to pick a data plan but I never activated it so it never took affect.

I'm with Verizon. I'm going to go down to the store this weekend with him and see what I can find out. Thanks for the info guys.

Friends don't let friends sign up with AT&T =)

Anyone having issues with no sound on videos? I've got an iPhone 4 and sound used to be fine on the videos. Music plays fine, sound is turned all the way up, I've checked online and have done all of the troubleshooting tip, and I haven't dropped my phone. Oh and I've also rebooted it. Anyone have any ideas other than it's defected somehow (even though it worked fine a few months ago)?

Of course there's a way, they mass produce millions of them. The good thing is if its under warranty they will exchange with no hassle at all. I'm gonna get my new iphone 5 exchanged because I don't feel like the battery life is up to par. It's not bad just not as good as I would like. Back to the subject, is it old videos or new ones? Have you updated recently?

How are you watching them? YouTube app? Browser? Watch ESPN? Other app?

The YouTube app is no longer supported with iOS6 and watching in the browser is recommended.

Son uses the most. Will have to see the price comparison. Sounds like you think it sucks.

Well I have unlimited & I'm not willing to give that up. The other 2 have 2GB plans. After discounts it comes to about $64 for all 3 data plans. I think the 5GB share plan is $50.

You can download YouTube from the App Store. The old one is obsolete & was probably deleted during update. I think he means videos he recorded.
