Interesting Stat On Jalen Hurd

Jalen is super talented and no doubt will be a force in the SEC, but he really needs to work on his stiff arm, to free himself from that first defender.

I've seen him miss this time and again, this season. Even in the SC game, he missed a number of them that would have sprung him for a big gain

Travis Henry used it to great effect. Wish he could come in and work with Jalen on that aspect of his game, because I think he is on par with Gurley, once he gets that down.

According to the announcer, Jalen Hurd is 13th in the SEC among runningbacks in yards after contact.

I would have never thought that as hard as he seems to run.

4Q TENN J. Dobbs pass,to J. Hurd for 21 yds for a TD, (A. Medley KICK) - ESPN Video - ESPN

Let's see what the stats look like at the end of the season now that a defense can't sit there and know he will get the ball. The jet sweep and Dobbs ability will open a lot more holes for Jalen in the next few weeks. He'll finish with a 1000 yds. BOOK IT!

The guy is an animal. Reminds me of Eddie George from OSU. Great combination of power and speed. Also excellent blocker.

I think the line is a lot better then we think. Worely just made it look horrible.

No, it's bad. Dobbs has made them look much better. True, they were back on their heels with Worley in there, but they were totally outmatched by the likes of Arky St and UTC. I think they've shown improvement and have responded better with Dobbs at qb. But make no mistake, they're still a below average SEC OL.

Listen you kids, it's not so much the line. If I'm a defensive coordinator playing against UT with Worley as QB, I'm going to constantly blitz one or all LB's. That's what happens when you're 1 dimensional, boys. Now addressing our O-line: We're talking about 18 yr old boys playing against 21-22 yr olds, with 3-4 years in an AWESOME weight training program. Do the math, spuds. I PROMISE you, if you were in our boys shoes, you'd get spanked, too. Morale of the story: GET OFF THEIR ASSES, time and training will cure this next year. Now get your momma's to fix you a bowl of fruity pebbles, and get in there and watch you some sponge bob! Clowns.... SMH

I'm not sure Worley could have done a whole lot to improve Hurd's YAC numbers. Maybe he should have lined up at fullback?

I guess that you don't watch UT play very often or you just don't know very much about football but UT doesn't use a fullback in thier offensive system.

Easier to break contact if you have a hole and are beating lbs or dbs. Many of Hurds runs have been up the gut into DT and DE's, not in open space.

His touchdown against South Carolina was impressive. Got hit in the leg hard enough to spin him around. Stayed on his feet. Got up field. Ran directly at the next tackler's outside shoulder to get his momentum going against him. He then jump cuts a millisecond before contact with that guy and the guy loses his balance and can't even hope of tackling him. That's some good yards after contact imo. He'll be just fine for us.

They're not all 18 year old boys....Crowder turns 22 next month. Jackson is a redshirt junior and is 22. Jacob Gilliam's a redshirt senior and he's 22. Kyler Kerbyson is a redshirt junior and 21 years old. Only Robertson and Thomas are 18 year old kids.

You should get your facts straight before getting on here and calling guys out, no matter what the "morale" of the story is.

No, Tennessee traded FB for a Slot Reciever while still allowing a TE.

However, I have still seen triple options, such as 2 RBs (I think?) and Pearson coming for the jet sweep (You can keep it, hand it to hurd, or give it to Pearson)

Hurd will improve as he gets better at trucking members of the front 7. If Dobbs looks like a completely different athelete after S&C, just imagine what Hurd would do.

You're right. The line looked great when the guy you were calling to start before the Bama game(Peterman) was in there.

I would love to see the stat of how many defenders leave the field after tackling Hurd when hes not in the backfield. Seems I've noticed a LOT of defenders getting up slowly or leaving the field.

You serious, Clark?

Yes, go watch the UT Bama game, and count the number of times you see UT with a fullback on the field, and I'm not talking about Hurd in a one back set. Or just watch UT play next week at Kentucky. Btw, who is Clark?

And I would imagine you would have to consider that this factors in more than 1 back per team..

For example, I would imagine that Gurley, Chubb, and Michel are all above Hurd and they play for 1 team.

So 12th out of 14 teams would be bad, but 12th out of all the backs in the SEC isn't terrible.
