Instead of 2 Power Conferences

Looks bad... sorry OP. 2001 Conference setup was probably the best. Just do minor tweaks like putting Miami in ACC, Penn State and Notre Dame in the Big East, and move up programs like Utah and TCU.

This is how it should be. You play everyone in your division, one permanent other division and then rotate the other 2 every year. 9 conference games+1 other P5 opponent. 16 team playoff. P5 Conference Winner auto home game. No more than 4 schools per conference, everyone gets at least 2.

7 conferences. 10 teams each. Welcome back Big East and SWC. Play everyone in your conference and a team from 3 conferences one year, other 3 the next. Protect rivalries such as UF v FSU, USC v ND, VA vs VTech, possibly bring back Oklahoma and Nebraska?

Pac 10 - Arizona, ASU, USC, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, OSU, Washington WSU

Big ...8+2? 12-2? Maybe West? Anyway....Utah, BYU, Colorado, Kansas, KSU, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Iowa St, Minnesota

SWC - Texas, A&M, Tech, Houston, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Arkansas, Oklahoma, OK St

SEC - LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, Bama, Barn, Vandy, UT, Georgia, GA Tech, Florida.

Big Ten - Ohio St, Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan St, Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin.

ACC - FSU, UCF, Miami, S Carolina, Clemson, UNC, Wake, NCST, Duke, UVA.

Big East - VA Tech, West VA, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Pitt, Penn State, Syracuse, Rutgers, Boston College.

Just make one big "A" conference, a "B" conference, a "C" conference etc etc... and each year have relegation like European soccer. The regional conference has left the building never to return

I think you are close with this. I really do like the regionality of it. If you had to keep the P4+Notre Dame (and restore Oregon State and Washington State) here's how I would do it, with a little more tradition and balance

ACC- FSU, UCF, Miami, Clemson, Ga Tech, UNC, Wake, Duke, NC State, UVA

B10- Michigan, Mich State, Ohio State, Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, Illinois, Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin

Cen-10: Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Okie State, Colorado, Nebraska, BYU, Utah

METRO: Notre Dame, Pitt, Cincy, Louisville, Rutgers, Syracuse, Boston College, Va Tech, West Virginia, Maryland

Pac-10: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington Washington State

SEC: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Miss State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vandy

SWC: Houston, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Arkansas, LSU, Missouri

LSU out of the SEC and Iowa out of the B1 is probably the biggest gripe, but if I can't replace Rutgers with another Texas or Louisiana team, that's how I would do it.

Play everyone in conference. Must play 1 P7 team every year. Play 2 Group of 7 teams (we are going to 140 FBS team and bringing back the WAC!). Preseason FCS team. 8 team playoffs, all conference champions.

Put Miss St in the SWC and LSU back in the SEC.

I'd rather do this if you gotta have LSU in the SEC

Vandy/Missouri in the Cen-10
Oklahoma/Oklahoma State to the SWC

But I don't love the Cen-10. That becomes clearly the weakest conference out of the P7.
You could do that too. LSU's gotta be in the SEC. I've always thought Miss St was actually the SEC school that offered the least to the conference, even less than Vandy.

That's fair but I hate separating MSU and Mississippi. Actually, Kentucky being moved to the Cen-10 makes more sense.
