Looks bad... sorry OP. 2001 Conference setup was probably the best. Just do minor tweaks like putting Miami in ACC, Penn State and Notre Dame in the Big East, and move up programs like Utah and TCU.

This is how it should be. You play everyone in your division, one permanent other division and then rotate the other 2 every year. 9 conference games+1 other P5 opponent. 16 team playoff. P5 Conference Winner auto home game. No more than 4 schools per conference, everyone gets at least 2.

Pac 10 - Arizona, ASU, USC, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, OSU, Washington WSU

Big ...8+2? 12-2? Maybe West? Anyway....Utah, BYU, Colorado, Kansas, KSU, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Iowa St, Minnesota

SWC - Texas, A&M, Tech, Houston, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Arkansas, Oklahoma, OK St

SEC - LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, Bama, Barn, Vandy, UT, Georgia, GA Tech, Florida.

Big Ten - Ohio St, Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan St, Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin.

Just make one big "A" conference, a "B" conference, a "C" conference etc etc... and each year have relegation like European soccer. The regional conference has left the building never to return
