Insanity by Shaun T

i'm just trying to get lean. get my bodyfat to under 10% then i'm going back to layne norton hypertrophy. however what i might do is get the insanity and do the cardio in the morning, then lift in the afternoon

If all you are trying to do is get lean, Insanity is MUCH better for that than lifting. In about 5 weeks, I hope to be around 180lbs, and I am at around 205 right now with plenty of toning going on. Insanity has so many different movements its crazy. It's also just 60 days, which I have extended myself by 2 weeks, versus 90 with P90x. My wife was only doing P90x, and she's lost more with incorporating Insanity into her workout, than she did in 9 weeks with just P90x. I would almost say that you need Insanity before P90x, but even if you finished Insanity, I would keep doing it instead of P90x. That's just my opinion though.

I started out doing Insanity at 235, so I have lost 30 lbs or so.

It's all about cardio and diet. Mania, how can you handle all the volume in Layne Norton's routine, seems like it would kill me. Why don't you just do some HIIT cardio to lean up mania.

my knees suck, so the treadmill, eliptical hurts my knees. the volume isn't that bad really. however i haven't done it in almost 3 months. had some personal issues come up and i started p90x last wk.

You talking about the power/hyper workout?

To be honest, if you don't hit the cardio first to get your metabolism up and running, lifting won't do much than get you some mass, IMO. At least that's my experiences.

When I'm trying to lose weight, I always do cardio after workout. 90% of it has to do with your diet though.

True. I have recently underwent major changes in my diet. No more fatty red meats, very little dairy, and junk food have been eliminated from my diet. Low carb, low fat, high protein is what my family eats now and I notice a big different in my energy level after I eat. No more of the grogginess after I eat, I can still go and be full.

i wld do the cardio before work in the morning, which would be before i ate anything. this will help burn calories thru the day. then after work i'd hit the gym

i'm just curious what an avg day would be like for you as far as your diet is concerned.

No matter what workout you are doing, you should eat something a minimum of an hour before you workout. I learned that the hard way with hard crashes after I was done.

Right now....

Breakfast - Cereal with fruit. I use 2% milk.

Lunch - Chicken sandwich with Wheat Bread, no cheese.

Dinner - Whatever low carb/low fat dinner E-Mealz has scheduled for us.

I typically do not snack that much, but when I do it's like a Kroger or whatever store you use protein bar. It's not about meal replacement here.

I like my incline treadmill and Turbo jam for cardio. Also do step work for cardio. I just get bored with it. And I like the Jari Love Ripped videos for strength training but again, it just gets boring. I completely changed my body with them.

Volly, when you start Insanity, try to make sure you go MUCH slower than what they do when you do the 3-tiered warmup. I made that mistake and couldn't finish the workouts, and wish I would have just made it fully through than trying to be a badass at first. You obviously need to push more as you go, but not the first week.
