If UT had shut out USC in the Rose Bowl, it would have been undeniably the best team of all time. That didn't happen though.
Not only did they win every game that year, but they shut out every opponent. I think it would be safe to say Bowl games were a cherry on the season and the teams didn't take it all that serious. Sort of like the opting out now - they already won the championship (Bowls weren't accounted for back then when in comes to natty's).

I know. It's before NIL, TV, Targeting, 2 minute time out, coaches getting paid 50 million to get fired, Finebaum, Fair catch on a kickoff, transfer portal, bowl opt-outs, and a player like Carson Beck playing in his 7th season.I think the "best team of all time" is bit of a silly moniker. Comparing a team from the 1930s with a team from 2019 is just....silly.

It was just two teams of students playing for the pride of their school against other schools more or less a heated pickup game that was fun to watch. It is silly, isn't it?
I agree, and see your point. But you gotta admit, shutting out every team (and there were some legendary schools there, Alabama, Auburn, Vandy, Kentucky) was a feat even back then. It will never be repeated.I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that I was saying the game in the 30s was silly, nor what any of that rant has to do with anything other than you airing out sour grapes. I'm saying trying to compare teams from MUCH different eras is silly. It's not really a hard concept to grasp why that is.
Indiana has won the Big 10 Championship 3 times since WW2.
Uk hasn't won the SEC outright since Bear Bryant coached them in 1950.
Vandy has never won the conference.
Northwestern holds the record for most losses by a program, but they have won 8 Big 10 Championships; most between 1900-1931, then 1996 and 2000. They have 8 conference crowns and some long stretches of futility.
Discussing the worst program of all-time is an interesting conversation.
When you’re blowing out all of the next best teams, you’re doing something that no one else is. I believe that to be a universal law.If Indiana wins, I don't think they're the best team ever but it's certainly the greatest season ever. 16-0. Beat defending champs. Beat top 5 Oregon twice, once in Eugene. I think they'll end up with either 6 or 7 top 25 wins.
