Usually in baseball they have a Player of the Year and a Pitcher of the Year. In NCAA Baseball they have the Golden Spikes Award (for position players) and Roger Clemens Award (for best pitcher).
I'm not well read on my NCAA Softball Awards but I'm going to bet "Player of the Year" is given to a position player and they have a seprate award for pitchers.
If that's true then that makes sense.Usually in baseball they have a Player of the Year and a Pitcher of the Year. In NCAA Baseball they have the Golden Spikes Award (for position players) and Roger Clemens Award (for best pitcher).

Some Golden Spikes Winners...
2006 Tim Lincecum
2004 Jared Weaver
2001 Mark Prior
2000 Kip Bouknight
1999 Jason Jennings
All are pitchers.
I think that the Golden Spikes award is for the top overall player in college baseball.
