How did she beat out Monica Abbott.I don't get it.Without Monica's pitching,UT would be mediocre at best IMO.:dunno:

Im not sure how a pitcher as dominant as she is doesn't get it. Especially as she continues to burn up all the record books.

Usually in baseball they have a Player of the Year and a Pitcher of the Year. In NCAA Baseball they have the Golden Spikes Award (for position players) and Roger Clemens Award (for best pitcher).

I'm not well read on my NCAA Softball Awards but I'm going to bet "Player of the Year" is given to a position player and they have a seprate award for pitchers.

If that's true then that makes sense.

Some Golden Spikes Winners...

2006 Tim Lincecum
2004 Jared Weaver
2001 Mark Prior
2000 Kip Bouknight
1999 Jason Jennings

All are pitchers.

I think that the Golden Spikes award is for the top overall player in college baseball.

The Dick Howser Trophy is also a "NCAA Player of the Year" voted on by the Writers. Weaver and Prior also won that one. So I guess we're back to square one in the discussion because I was wrong.

In Baseball you always need 2 seprate awards, in my opinion. I don't know if anyone in here has played on a team where you actually have a staff of pitchers but the pitchers and position players are two whole different groups. They also really don't like each other that much.

Like I said Softball is a totally different world to me.

You bring up a good point, though. I wonder why Abbott didn't win? Maybe you're partly right. Maybe the SEC splits them, and the NCAA doesn't? Because Abbott is one of the 3 finalists for national player of the year. I haven't been able to find a list of winners for the SEC players of the year, or pitchers of the year for that matter.
