Improving speed-how much

Having coached speed I can honestly say it depends on what kind of training the kid has had. I ran a 4.53 my Sr. year and with speed drills, lifting, and form running I got down to 4.22. Proper running form plays a big role in speed. A lot of guys have the ability to be faster, its just a matter of how much can they correct and how committed are they to the extra work?

Truer words never spoken.

It is true that some people are born to be faster than others. The more type 2 fibers a person has, the faster they can potentially be.
But, speed is something that usually can be developed. Ex. Brandon Byram, from Station Camp was the 2007 tn state 200m champion with a time of 21.3 sec. Now at FSU he runs a 20.40 sec.

I'm not sure what Devrin Young is doing, possibly just maturing, but his times have really started dropping. Before laying down 2 sub 10.80's at this years TSSAA championships he was running high 10's and even low 11's not very long ago.

If you're referring to Devin Young then let me let you in on the BIG secret. He runs a 4.6 and HATES contact.

Is his slow speed why he finished second in the state 100 yard dash as a junior?

When I watched him run last night against a pretty physical Maryville team, he didn't get big yardage, but a lot of it was via hard yards falling forward where he didn't have a lot of good blocking.

Then again, you have access to BIG secrets. So maybe you do know something I don't.
