Improvement under CBJ

I read about people getting frustrated with Coach Jones about the lack of results and I understand that. I'm ready to win in the SEC again also, but I think he deserves more patience form us.

Our year to year improvement under CBJ has been consistent and substantial. I know it's yet to show up in wins but I feel we should see that improve this year also. Hopefully starting this week.

Our point differential improved (or stayed the same in the case of Georgia) against every one of our yearly opponents between Butch's first season and second season.

Oh well, then based on forecasting then the only loss we have left is BAMA for this year!!!..............So, let's see how this plays out as we clearly have more talent than the previous 2 years..........it's all about COACHING now !!!

Before the Moral Victory crowd jumps in let me just say that I agree with your assertion. Improvement is very noticeable, imo. And I haven't seen 13 players on the field once either since he's been here.

We will continue to improve this year. We will get to 8-4. Maybe 9-3.

2016 has always been the year. Doesn't mean 2015 can't be fun.

IMO, Butch gets another year regardless of what happens this weekend. The Vols SHOULD win, but I just can't say with confidence that they will.

If team 120 rolls around and the Vols are not in contention for the East, there could be trouble. The win column will be the only "improvement" that matters at that point.

I really like Butch. I hope this team plays up to expectations/potential from here out.

Great post...but ignorant fans don't want to hear/see that. All they hear/see are two great recruiting classes and expect instant return to SEC dominance. They don't want to hear 2/3 years of development in a college weight training program, player development, understanding of offense-defense, the importance of big game experience, etc....etc.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This is a five year rebuild; the program was completely decimated. There is no doubt that Butch has done more with less than most could, or that most would have been willing to attempt.

Having said that, there are still some (recent) game-time decisions that have some of us scratching our heads. Nevertheless, the season is still young and there's a lot of football left to be played. Let's what his team does down at UF this year, and let's see how he manages them and that game.

But somehow great coaches fully establish themselves as Championship caliber within 2-3 years even given all that. How is it ignorant to expect the same at the University of Tennessee?

If a coach doesn't win by year 3, he's not a winner. Period. He may luck up and have a good season or two, but he won't return us to 1985-2004 form, by any stretch of the imagination

Another thing that Jones has pointed out that I think gets lost on the win now crowd; he has completely flipped the roster.

Only 12 players on this roster that traveled the last time the Vols went to the swamp.

Youth is still an issue no matter if you want to hear that or not.

Much much easier to have quick turnarounds outside of the SEC. Urban Meyer just as an example.

Exactly, those who think we can just snap our fingers and be elite in the SEC and in the East in a couple years just don't know how far we fell, and they also don't know how hard it is to win in the SEC, just ask the hammers! If you think you are frustrated just talk to the bammers. They've had the number one recruiting class since the dawn of modernity and have been beaten by Ole Miss the past two years! Just be patient, it is coming!

This is about as uninformed a post as I've seen. First, every situation is different. Butch taking over here is the equivalent of a coach taking over the Detroit Lions. Thanks to Dooley there was not only a deficiency of SEC speed and talent there was the larger issue of reversing a culture of losing. That is not easy to change in a hurry. Secondly there are hosts of coaches that don't win by year three that go on to be championship coaches. The prime example being a coach who is arguably the greatest in all sports in Coach K at Duke.

It never ceases to amaze me how people say things on these pages as if they are Gospel truth but reality is just not so.

By 2016 the rebuild will be 95% done. The only thing left will be waiting to have a stockpile of lesser talented players who can develop and become RS SR backups and contributors in certain places (OL, TE, LS, etc).

Butch is recruiting at a level where we won't have many 5th year seniors. We will be like LSU and Bama and have multiple juniors declaring for the draft every year, starting this year with Cam and significantly more next year.

Guys like KMack and Tuttle will be better as sophomores than the vast majority of redshirt senior defensive tackles, because they will be NFL bound after just 3 years on campus.
