It's his first year at PURDUE, but he'll have them winning 8 games a year like Franklin did at Vanderbilt and then he will get a big job and win big like Franklin is, and you'll wish he was at Tennessee.

You cannot deny that he's done a tremendous job in his first season at Purdue. One of the best coaching jobs of the year. Probably second only to Scott Frost.

Buying out Butch is 10 Million and his assistants are anywhere from an additional 3-5 million. Obviously there is offset language in there, but its no guarantee any program is gonna take a flyer on Butch .

So we are at 13 million at the least and 15 million at the most to get rid of our current staff.

To buyout Brohm, it would cost UT 5 million dollars.

So now were are 18-20 million. To pay him what we pay Butch on top of the new assistants, we are north of 25 million dollars.

Please tell me where I am wrong? The only way it is not a 25 million investment is if Butch gets another job. Even if he got a job making 2 million a year, we still pay north of 20 million due to his offset. Brohm is not worth a 20-25 million dollar investment.

Look forward to seeing where you prove I am wrong with the economics of firing Butch and hiring Brohm.

you're not wrong, but if you're going to fire Butch, you're on the hook for that 12-15 millionish regardless. that's just what it costs to fire the guy.

as to the new coach...if you're really dead set on a power 5, proven coach, then you're going to spend north of $20million...no matter WHO you hire.

and depending on how much is left on a guy's contract at a mid major/2nd tier school, you're still looking at buying out that guy and his coaches too. so on the low end, call it $5 million for a guy like that. you're still around the $20 million mark.

so, i don't think it matters who you hire. get ready to spend $20m+

What makes you think the buyout money for Butch is reduced when he gets another coaching job? We paid Dooley every penny of his buyout and he was coaching in the NFL.

It’s in his contract according to some posters here. Haven’t read it myself, just excerpts.

It’s been reported that there is a mitigation clause. His buyout is reduced by whatever his salary is at a new gig

Good win at Iowa yesterday. A win next week against Indiana will have them bowling. Would be a tremendous accomplishment for that program in his first year.

Saturday, he beat PJ Fleck decisively. In the season opener, he almost beat Petrino. He beat an SEC team 38-3. And he had Harbaugh on the ropes in the 4th quarter. This man knows how to coach...

And what's just as impressive, is his ability to get the most out of his quarterbacks. He's currently rolling with two QBs who have combined for 13 TDs to 6 INTs and a completion percentage of 62% (the leading passer is at 69%). What he was able to do with QBs Brandon Doughty and Mike White at WKU is simply remarkable... not to mention the 1600 yard rusher and TWO 1300 yard receivers he coached last year... The man has one of the best offensive minds in football.

Yep, that 5-6 record he has at Purdue is quite impressive. That's just what we need is another coach with a losing record. It worked out so well the last time:banghead2:

I think Brohm could be an interesting pick but it would be nice to have a few more years under his belt. Unfortunately, the college head coaching landscape with super high salaries and buyouts has a huge bearing in today's college football.

Basically, you either have to mortgage the stadium, or go after tier or two below kind of guy that isn't ready like Brohm, or people that are unemployed in coaching or have been fired.

He has a career winning record. And considering what he inherited, it's impressive that he's at 5-6

I would be very happy to hire Brohm if we don’t get an A-lister and Mullen says No.
We’re not going to find an experienced Power Five coach who consistently wins his conference and is eager to drop everything to come here.

4 yrs. coaching 34 15 record.
