Am I the only person here thats a bit disturbed, that the woman who accused Johnson of rape is essentially allowed to do so under total anonymity? While guilty or innocent she is already able to drag Johnson's name through the preverbal mud. I understand that law enforcement could be concerned about her safety, if her name was to be made public. However the same logic could still be applied to Johnson, since for all any of us know he could be guiltless in the matter, and now no matter the outcome his name has already been tarnished. Just does not seem like equal treatment by the law, regarding the accuser and the accused.

As you can see AJ's name is there for the world to scrutinize, while hers is kept totally private

It was easy to figure out who it was without her name being anywhere.

Its simple when you accept a role in society higher than the avg person..u have n live by a different set of rules..ask bill Cosby..

Geez.... U don't have privacy..

Let's just assume for a second that the allegations are true.

Now, pretend this is your daughter. Something that she has been the victim of is out in the news like this with a high profile athlete at a university full of fans who don't care who your daughter is and are hell bent on trashing her name.

That is why her name is anonymous. Don't be so insensitive.
What we really need to do as a society and culture is quit making victims of rape feel shame. They are victims of a violent crime period. We should quit equating it to sex, once we do that people, yes males get raped, will report it as crimes without any stigma. The whole idea "would you want your daughter's name revealed" is the idea behind the daughter was having sex rather than being assaulted. For God's sakes hope some of you never have to visit these stigmas on your innocent children, you victimize them again if shame at home is involved. Hell I'd want the world to know who did a violent act on my daughter and that's why I field dressed him and had his head on my mantle, come arrest me.

I think I heard this speech in the movie, "MS Burning". The prosecuting attorney gave it.:)

I don't need to know who she is. It doesn't bother me at all that her name hasn't been released.

Premeditated and jumping to conclusions. I get it, you want to protect your family, but the truth to the whole situation has not been revealed. AJ is accused....not found guilty of. So before you go and "field dress" someone using his/her head as center piece for you home, I would hope and assume that you are going on fact and not just an statement from one whom still we don't know if it is or has any weight of truth it.

We have rape shield laws that require anonymity for a rape accuser and that information is exempt from any FOIA type request. If you want the same thing for the accused you just need to get 51% of voters to elect people who will pass a law to keep the identity of suspected rapists confidential until a charge is filed. Good luck with that (not really).

A couple of questions for those who want to keep confidential the identities of subjects of criminal investigations. First, how could the cops seek the public's help in identifying or locating an uncharged suspect? Second, what do you people think the response would be if a suspect reoffends while under investigation and the victim and press find out after the fact?

Sorry but that's incorrect. Tennessee Rule of Evidence 412 is the Rape Sheild Rule. It basically protects the victim from confronting allegations about her reputation or unrelated prior sexual conduct, with exceptions. In the rape shield hearing, the victim herself can be called to testify. Plus, it's a rule of evidence which is promulgated by the Tenn Supremes. Legislature doesn't govern evidence rules.

Police reports are not available with public records requests until the case is closed.

Once upon a time in America, the accused was presumed innocent until proven guilty. Then came the court of public opinion.

We are talking about the University of Tennessee here, not America and your constitutional rights. It is not in AJ's 'rights' to play football here, it a gift given to him by the University. They have the right to suspend him, and I do not see the issue with it. Once the facts come out (which look like they will be AJ's favor if rumors are correct), put him back on the team.

Also what freaking America are you talking about? This country has always had a lynch mob mentality. Also if we go by what you are saying, lets put no one in jail until they are proven guilty.

The names are both of public record. It was WBIR that chose to reveal the name of the accused and withhold the name of the accuser. They did this for their own benefit, getting out a story first.

If it turns out that AJ is not guilty (and this seems more likely every day) you can blame WBIR for ruining a young man's reputation, one that he will likely never fully recover from. They could have easily sat on this until charges were brought, but they chose not to for their own benefit.

I actually support AJ playing until he has been arrested for a crime. I'm not down with any person showing up at the AD's office making an allegation and a player being taken off the field until an investigation is concluded, which in essence has happened to AJ. He is being punished from Senior night, running through the T for the last time based on an unproved accusation at this point which is unfair and unjust IMO. My post was about our overall shaming of rape victims as a society when we should turn it around and treat them simply as victims of violent crimes.

Now...pretend you are the father or mother of a well-know UT athlete who is actually innocent of a heinous crime that he is accused of committing. But it is his name that is all over the newspapers. Jus' sayin'.

GO VOLS!

Warning females do not go to this member's house or apartment late at night, or he will expect sex no matter what. Warning.

It is standard practice to keep rape victim's names private, and rightfully so. They could have handled the situation similar to Lane's by suspending them for "violating team rules" and waiting for more information. If I were a woman, which I am not, I think I would be more cautious about partying, coming on to a guy, going into his bedroom and expect a kumbaya event or whatever. Rape is inexcusable, but I believe better judgment should be applied by both parties. On the other hand--NO SHOULD MEAN NO! Fire away. JMO.

Exactly right. KPD releases the report to the media with all names in plain view. Media outlets choose to black out whatever names their own policies dictate. In the case of WBIR and KNS, they both chose to black out the accuser/victims.

Anonymous: Hi, I'd just like to tell everyone that last night GAVol and I hung out. I got drunk and I thought he was being nice by offering to take me home and drop me off but instead he took me home and raped me. I called 911, went to the hospital, and filed a police report.

GAVol: Huh?! Wha...(permaban from Freak for political correctness and cause that's how GAVol would do it)

/hypothetical

You like how that went down GA? Probably not.
Mod rape fantasies indicate real authority issues.

If no charges are filed, this episode will be a distant memory Christmas.
