Igor Milicic 3 point shooting

Igor is kind of in the Santi category this year...the games where he's been hit with fouls early and played less we've seen him kind of vanish.

vs Florida 3 fouls and 18 minutes, only took 3 shots
vs Auburn 4 fouls and 16 minutes, took 5 shots and scored 7 but just 2 rebounds

Ideally the Igor we got against Texas is what we need to make a run I think.

Played 31 minutes, took 10 shots and ended up with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals and also 0 turnovers.

Forget shooting. Can we just have defense and rebounding Milicic back?
I don't know what can be done with Igor. I don't want him to drive to the basket because he doesn't handle the ball very well and usually loses the ballot misses the layup. I would rather have him shoot the threes, rebound, and play defense. He can only go right off the dribbled fakes too many shots when he is open. If he is open for the three from th corner or at the top of the key, he should take the shot. Faking the shot does not fool the defense and they slough off to cover the lane. He can be a real asset if he becomes aggressive. We need him to be aggressive. By the way, I was impressed have Barnes coached the game yesterday. He knew he had an oppo4tunity to win the game early and he freely substituted his players. Most everyone played some minutes and the starters got a lot of rest.
We should be ready to play well tomorrow.

I just want him active on boards and the defensive end. I have given up on him carrying a big offensive load. The problem is that last night he looked timid on both ends.
He's been pretty bad across 9 games for a month, now. 6.8 ppg, 4 rpg, 32.3% 3-pt%, 38.6% FG%...all well below his seasonal averages prior to the swoon. His defense is abysmal. He's committed 26 fouls in that span, as well. The past three games in particular, 10 fouls in 54 minutes.

Yikes, that's brutal

He seems to be a great teammate. Unfortunately, he is not quick and is not a good finisher. He will get in there and rebound. Please have a good game against UCLA.

Almost 20 mins and 0-1 from 3 and just 2 points.
2 whole points.
Oof.....
Hey bro. With this season now over, I’ll be checking out. But I have one serious, final question for you - have you ever played any sport at the collegiate level or coached a competitive team (any sport) at any level? Thanks for your response.

I know you seem to be emotionally invested on Milicic, but you have to admit that something went off the rails in the 15 or so games. He can't just be blindly defended without acknowledging the enormous drop-off in production, and seemingly in basketball IQ.

I played in high school, and I have coached on little league teams. I know the game of basketball. I don't need to have played in college or pros or have had a head coaching position in either to know bad play when I see it.

You nailed it. He got emotionally invested into Igor and hence takes all criticism in respect to heart.
I for one certainly am not going to feel bad for pointing out Igor’s bad play because doing so hits him in the feels.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if he was friends with Igor or even a family member.

Just a big fan from his playing days at Charlotte. Good luck to you.

Tennessee needed Igor to be the stretch 4 he's supposed to be.

Especially today.

If Igor was that guy, it would change the Tennessee team entirely offensively.
Yes , but unfortunately he was a non factor. He actually regressed over the last part of the season , fatigue or something else?

Igor’s problems are ball handling and passing. Also lapses on defense and blocking out. Some of his decision making is perplexing. He hustles and tries hard but his basketball awareness and decision making has to improve.

The downward spiral in basketball IQ from day 1 to now for a kid with international experience and a dad who is the head coach of a national team is really puzzling.

He’s simply not - in my opinion - athletic enough. That does not explain why his shooting seemingly regressed . . . But he just plays awkward . . . A lot. And that turned into bad plays / turnovers etc.

It doesn’t explain bad ball handling and passing either. The last 2 turnovers of the game against Kentucky were perplexing.
