if your going to Gainesville

Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun reported today that the city still has large swaths without power and gas is hard to find. He advised all Gator fans coming into town for the game to make sure we had a full tank and not to rely on getting any in the area, otherwise we'd be stranded and looking for hotel rooms that are also in short supply.

In light of this, I think a classy move by UT would be to keep the Pride of the Southland in Knoxville. I've seen them arrive down here before and they use like 4 large buses. They also take up a large swath of rooms at the Ocala Hilton off I-75.

Tennessee could make a strong statement by limiting their footprint and reducing their travel party to the athletic director, athletic director's wife, Butch Jones' wife, and maybe the parents of the team captains. We could just put them all in one box.

Or, you could just stfu.

It's obvious the whole state can use this boost to the economy of not just our game but the many others that are also being played across the state.

Question , why does UFs football team get a hotel the night before the game?

To be insulated from the distractions and festivities of a typical Friday night in a college town.

Also, in this particular case, if some players lived in one of the areas without power, they might oversleep, for example.

CBS can function without the Pride of the Southland and Vol fans, but not without the Florida Gators football team.

Why have I not seen you mention all the Gator fans not from Gainesville to remain at home? Wouldn't this help reduce "the footprint"? Take your nonsense somewhere else. So in essence CBS can function without the Pride of the Southland, Vol fans, and Gator fans.

CBS can function without the Florida band and Gator Fans as well - so just let the two teams play before an empty stadium. We will all watch on TV.

We need lots and lots of gator fans at the game. More to watch cry when we destroy them.

By his logic why would you bring CBS or any other media outlet in the first place??? Can you imagine the fule consumption it takes to provide power for all those cameras for a 3-4 hr game plus the post game coverage? Forget the RV crowd and their wasteful ways we might as well stay at home and take the L like good God fearing socially responsible Americans. Not trivializing the impact, this or other, natural disasters have on this region, but let's cool it with the fo-crocodile tears under the guise of gamesmanship.

Yeah, but it's our home game and meant to be an emotionally uplifting event for us. We've lost 3 home games in the last 4 years and haven't played in the Swamp since Nov. 12th of last year - 308 days, if I'm not mistaken, which I believe is a record. Tennessee should let us have our moment.

If the Southland Band does choose to attend, I think it'd be best to limit the playing of Rocky Top. Not sure a song so prominently based on the notion of "Home Sweet Home" is appropriate at a time when many Floridians no longer have a home to go back to - it could trigger a lot of negative emotions and might be a bad look.

Basically, if you're a Vol attending this game, try not to use FL gas stations, FL hotel rooms, or sing Rocky Top in the state of FL. Thank you in advance.

Too late. I'm already in Florida, staying at a hotel burning up Florida gas, singing "Rocky Top" all day long. What can I do to make it up to you?

I did get a "Go Vols" at the grocery store today. Does that help?

I would respond to this comment, but I might have to ban myself for my own comments.

That being said: Go iron your jorts.

Really gotta question whether Tennessee fans and their band should make this trip. The classy move would be to stay home and open up those hotel rooms for displaced residents. The Pride of the Southland alone will take up virtually an entire wing of a hotel in Ocala. Not to mention their huge buses that will guzzle a lot of gas when there are still shortages in the area, as reported today by the Gainesville Sun.

I realize you're attempting to troll, but I thought I'd help you out before I get on that big gas-guzzling plane en route to Gainesville.

No need to worry about our buses using up your gas. One of our boosters has us-- and you-- covered. Pilot and the Haslams are donating fuel for trucks to deliver emergency supplies all over Florida for as long as they're needed. Oh, and we're paying for the gas for our plane, too, which is delivering boxes of bottled water, food, clothing and recovery supplies to help Florida families. Pat Dooley probably didn't report that because we're not publicizing it.

And don't fret about us hogging your hotel rooms, either. The hotels aren't full. We're taking up vacant rooms and the Hilton was delighted to hear we weren't cancelling. Ka-ching, ka-ching. We're bringing extra money and lots of plastic to cover the price gouging by Floridians.

Good news! We've got our security covered, too. We're bringing 24 UTPD officers to assist with the game-- at our expense. We've got other volunteers coming, too, to cover services normally provided by the host school. Guess who's paying them? Hint: not UF.

So UT is incurring a great deal of added expense to accommodate a poor decision that was 100% UF's. Playing in a neutral venue would have eliminated your concerns and been, by far, the smarter choice. But UF didn't make the smarter choice and now Tennesseans are quietly going out of our way to help you out-- without complaint. The only people in American confused about who's classy in this scenario are from Gainesville.

They also need a shot to their economy which this will bring.

Tax money being spent is always good. But i dont think it trumps that they infrastructure isnt ready to handle the extra stress. Folks stuck in traffic, gas stations that have no gas, traffic accidents occur, putting extra strain on police etc. It sounds to me like the event was forced on an area that is not prepared to handle it. Just me though

We didn't decide that. The University of Florida and perhaps their governor did. If they say play there, we don't have a choice.

We were planning to head over to Gainesville in our rv tomorrow but hubby is now worried about not being able to find gas. :ermm:

We may stay here and watch at O'Quigley's (our favorite sports bar in Destin) instead. GO VOLS!

Anytime the question is whether to stay in Destin or go to Gainesville, the answer should be fairly obvious.

Enjoy the beach.

Lol, i was with you for a minute and was actually disgusted by the way some vols fans were reacting to your previous statements, until i read this crap. I had my concerns about the game being held there but UF made the decision to hold it. So Tennessee owes you nothing and owes Florida nothing. Why shouldn't vols fans use vacant rooms? Most folks are reporting gas is not a problem. Funny how Florida puts up adds everywhere trying to get people to visit and spend money there and now you dont want it, when needed the most? Tons of aid is coming into Florida from all over the states.

And if there is a Floridian that doesnt have a home and they are spending money to attend a football game, perhaps they need a lesson in priorities.

I hope you hear Rocky Top early and often. We have players from Florida to you know?

Yeah, im sure the folks there know more about their capabilities than I. I tend to view everything from the street level first responder point of view and i know what its like to have stuff forced on you. Thats all.

That is a legit concern. Fuel trucks are running. Depending on where you are coming from, top off your tank when it gets down to 3/4. Once you have enough gas to the game and get out of town back to the gas station, keep rolling. Some places are cash only so be ready for that as well.

Thanks - we're going to decide in the morning but I'm pretty sure we'll decide to stay here and just yell really loud! :clapping:

...just basically asking Tennessee fans to be mindful that we've had 3 home games cancelled in the last 4 years and haven't been able to play in The Swamp since Nov. 12th, 2016. It's been a tough run as a Gator fan lately. Can't enjoy any offense - only 3 or 4 offensive TD's since the Arkansas game of last year. Anytime we get excited about a player, they get ripped away from us: Will Grier, Antonio Callaway, Jordan Scarlett. Only beaten FSU once since 2010. There's just not a lot to get up for these days and now we have this storm decimate us even more.
