I'd announce, the much needed stop to what has been going on. Every position is up for grabs. Seniority means nothing as of today, you want to be a starter, you will have to prove you deserve the job.
Coaching staff, your jobs are on the line, make no mistake about it, no more coddling and life coaching, this is football, if hard nosed, no BS training "ain't you style" turn in your resignation, no hard feelings, hell, I'll even drive you to the airport.
I'd apologize to the Fans, yes I would, I'd promise that I would lead by example, I'd be the first in and last out, if I wasn't great at something, I'd admit it, but I'd damn sure get someone that was.
Strength and conditioning is everything in sports-and of the highest importance in contact sports, I'd spend some time everyday looking over my S&C coaches shoulder, finding out what's going wrong.
My D would actually make contact with my O during practice. We'd boil our play book down-fast-to those plays we're good at, and build from there.
I'd tell the fans, "I've taken over a funeral, but we're stopping what has been acceptable for far too long, we will have a bowl game next year, or I will turn in my resignation to the AD"
Finally, I'd tell all those HS seniors, if you are looking for a Football Program, that will lead you to a professional career, UT, is looking for you, but we will not sing you to sleep at night, you had better be ready to give 100% to the program-if you do, the program will give you 1000% in return. UT is going back on top, if you want to be part of the crew that's responsible, we'd like your commitment.
Then I'd go to work.

Put in the simplest Spread offense I could field.
Run the 4-3 defense focusing on the two defensive ends and the outside backers.

Start the freshman QB with the most accurate arm.
Eliminate player celebrations.
Remedial strength training for both offense and defensive lines.
Receivers and DB's and corners get additional sprint time each day.
Shut down all media appearances by coaching staff and players.
Require after class study scessions for academics then a two hour tape breakdown in the evening first two days of the week the weeks prior game wed thru Fri prep for Sat's game.
Sunday off day with the exception of Church service which is required.

Streamline the coaching staff OC and DC each can have three asst's Strength and nutrition coach
Tiered coaches salary based on team success every coach eligible to make 1 mil per year only attained with a NC and unbeaten year this includes the HC. 100k base salary. All Asst coaches must do see a high school game each Friday night for recruiting purposes. Whit weekly meeting of the entire staff to consider the last weeks H.S. games and players seen. Recruit to the needs of the team not due to player rankings.

Byrdog, l like your post, I'd go a step further, each asst's would make a million, if we Played for the NC, 1.5 if we won. Remember, getting to play for a NATY, means you've done your job, no one is going to fault a coach or staff that gets you to that point. Hells Fire, we'd all love to get to that point....

I agree with all you said. If the players give their all and lose, you cant be mad about that.
You are right on, in fact, most fans on this board really stand behind our players that we see doing all they can, as of late they are easier to see, as their numbers have gotten so small. I remember a time, when EVERY VOL was putting out 100%, every game, every play, every time, but then again, I remember winning a NATY.
