If volnation was a paysite

Let's face it...if you're here to troll you won't last long. I like having a larger "perspective" than just our own. Besides, without other fans we'd only have ourselves to banter and bicker with. Trolls can be polarizing. An 'integrated" community also gives us instant fact checkers for our intellectual discussions.

:)

PS I like the idea of an adult area. Maybe password protected?

Wow, I didn't realize that the strength of the Gator nation rising up to defend our 2 time NC winning coach would cause you all to want to pay to have us go away. Too funny! :run::run::run::run::run::run:

$$$$$$$ :)

I have, at times, considered a VIP membership for those who have asked those same questions. In that case, there could be a premium forum for those who wish to use it and for everyone else, things remain the same.

The problem with this is that the "VIP" members would pretty much stick to the VIP board, and would not likely come to the "common" board.

This issue has been brought up on other forums I visit, mostly ones that are overrun with trolls/dumb posters, and making a "VIP" board for those who know what they are talking about, as opposed to those who pay. The problem is obviously much worse there as the people who are VIPs would just stick to that board while the other one degraded and devolved into trolls, spam, and idiots.

A VIP board based on paid memberships would be a little bit different, but I think it would still create the same type of rift. A lot of the more knowledgeable posters are probably some of the same ones who have subscriptions to rivals and scout etc and would probably be able to pay for the VIP board, but there are plenty of knowledgeable posters I am sure, who would be unable to pay for a VIP board.

OTOH, there may be enough posters who are unable/unwilling to pay for the VIP board to make the non-VIP board still viable, but at that point, why even have the VIP board? If there are so few over there, the discussion would be limited, and the main board would still be viable and bearable, it just doesn't seem necessary.

Just my 2 cents.

I would really like to get a set spot for a VolNation tailgate for all of the home football games. That would be a lot of fun to socialize and see everyone

I don't know. After you've met someone face-to-face it's a lot harder to be a fool online. :)

do you think the trolls would still come on here. In the past there was the occasional troll that you learned to ignore, but since this latest fiasco, it seems there are more than ever. I personally would rather pay than have to listen and sort through all their garbage. What do you guys think.

Ignore feature is your friend.

Making it a pay site to keep trolls away would make it seem like we're embarrassed of being Vols fans.....and last I checked even a 5-7 season won't make me box up my UT apparel and start hiding in a bomb shelter from the onslaught of the mighty Gators or Crimson Tide.

Any fans of those schools that think it's just totally impossible for us to make it back into the national spotlight and routinely whipping them on a yearly basis is fooling themselves. So while they like to come here and think they're ruining my day by calling our coach an idiot, or whining about losing a recruit to us, they aren't affecting my day at all.

And it shouldn't do anything to anyone else either.

I, for one, certainly think that UT will be back. Where I seem to find myself in disagreement with my good friends here at Volnation is timeframe.

Under no reasonably conceivable set of circumstances do I see UT being nationally competitive in the 2009 season. Chances of doing so are negligibly better in 2010, but that's more a function of the likely fall off at Florida that year than anything else, and the problem even with that is that it seems today that other SEC teams are likely going to have improved from '09 to '10.

2011 seems to me the most likely season to be looking to for national stature for UT. There are some on here who seem convinced that you are already there, which is a great rah rah sentiment, but seems irrational to me.

As bad as I hate to admit this, I actually agree with you. :)
I see possibly an 8 win season next year, but 7-5 wouldn't really surprise me. All new coaching staffs need time. 7-5 and a bowl win actually would be an improvement after last years debacle.

Style matters more than substance this year in that it is less about overall record this year than it is whether the team seems to be in better physical shape and more focused than last year (or the two years before that). In other words, does the team seem like it is headed in the right direction?

Things like turnover ratio, penalties, effective gameplanning, less injuries, less fatigue at the end of games, consistency, giving up fewer big plays on special teams. Things like that.

While I do concur with your estimation on timeframe actually, I'd just like to point out that any Gator fan coming from a historical perspective should be able to recall 1979 or have heard of the 0-10-1 team they fielded that year. What did they do in 1980 after that abysmal team? They went 8-4 and beat Maryland in the Tangerine Bowl.

While times have changed in college football from the 70's obviously, it's still football. Would it shock me if UT went 11-1 and ended up in the middle of some Top 5 National Championship debate? Hell yes it would shock me. But can I say that 100 times out of a 100 that would never happen? No, I can't.

Football is just a strange thing. You can absolutely spot trends and forecast certain things without much doubt (i.e. Akron will not win the National Championship next year) but there are still things that take us by surprise every single year.

Who would've ever said this time last year that Utah would manhandle Alabama in the Sugar Bowl? If you had that bet, you are probably enjoying your new vacation home in Boca Raton.
