Right.....and I remember when Wake Forest was actually in Wake Forest, less than 10 miles north of RaleighOf the ACC schools, Va Tech, NC State, Clemson and FSU fit the SEC culturally. UNC, Duke, UVA and Miami are more closely aligned w/ the Big 10.
I truly hope that the ACC can figure something out. I grew up in the heart of ACC country and it would truly be a shame to see a historically great conference go by the wayside. I’m gonna have a real hard time figuring out how Duke, Carolina and State aren’t going to be in the same conference when they’re all within 25 minutes of each other .
Now Wake Forest the town is one of the fastest growing areas in Wake county. We are actually considering moving in that direction in a few years. Of all the schools in the ACC Wake might be screwed over the most in this whole realignment deal. I think they’re the smallest P4 school. Ironically, Wake has won ACC titles more recently than Carolina and State (Carter Administration) and Duke in 89.Right.....and I remember when Wake Forest was actually in Wake Forest, less than 10 miles north of Raleigh
Because they already have a very significant foothold in it through UGA.What youre missing is the SEC doesnt care how adding teams makes life harder on Tennessee. They just want to get into those markets.
What I dont get is why they arent going harder after Georgia Tech and that Atlanta market.
Arkansas is pretty much in no man's land. Northwest corner of the state. Geographically, they can work in the SEC, B12 or B1G. As with Mizzou too. Columbia sits in the borders of 3 geographic conference footprints, but prob least at home in the SEC. But, alas, geographic presence is not much of a factor anymore. No sound reason for those that broke the P12 to be playing in the B1G or ACC.The more appropriate question is what four can we give back?
South Carolina
Missouri
Arkansas
Texas
Because like 26 people in Atlanta care about GT athletics. I don't even think very many of their alums care about it actually. What youre missing is the SEC doesnt care how adding teams makes life harder on Tennessee. They just want to get into those markets.

Too much bad history for GT to rejoin the conference. These these days alot of those folks are gone and it might could happen now if it was ever entertained again. What youre missing is the SEC doesnt care how adding teams makes life harder on Tennessee. They just want to get into those markets.

There's a very complicated and deep seeded history to the GT/SEC saga that likely caused GT athletics to be about as revered as Vandy. Cliff notes are in my post under this one of yours.Because like 26 people in Atlanta care about GT athletics. I don't even think very many of their alums care about it actually.
GT has done the best they can with the space available. It's a neat place to go see a game but outside the fences is a war zone, and they would never be able to squeeze an SEC stadium into what land they have available. Atmosphere at a GT game is highly reliant on the guest team, so there's only maybe 2 really jacked up number of games per season. So were Sewanee and Tulane. Adding GT wouldn't be far from a second Vanderbilt, in terms of stadium, facilities, and following.
This is my biggest fear in terms of expansion. The idea that we would take GT or Miami to keep the B1G out of our backyard sucks. I hate that we would take fan bases that are not as invested in college athletics . We are not a big city Conference. The ACC and B1G are, and those teams that are associated with those large cities are afterthoughts in their own town. Miami, GT, BC, Pitt, Rutgers kind of, USC, UCLA. Give me The Triangle teams, Blacksburg, Clemson and Tallahassee any day over those places. I think those places fit in better than GT or Miami. What y’all don’t realize is that the SEC, while not wanting to expand, WILL EXPAND, if for nothing else to prevent lesser conference like the B10 from poaching a school (read: TV market) that puts them directly in SEC country. THAT is the reason the SEC is going to pick up the following 4 teams:
1. UNC
2. Virginia
3. Clemson
4. FSU
Geographically builds a wall around ALL the premier programs in the actual southeast, and does not saturate any state (ahem, market) with too many teams.
Book it.
