If Tennesseee hires Mike Leach tomorrow... [bring him home Currie]

we may need a couple qbs anyways if our line is as weak as it was this year. qbs get hit in leachs offense with a weak o line. love the hire still, just tempering year 1 expectations

If this actually happens, Leach could easily be our Spurrier.

I would think that anyone that's beaten Oregon, Stanford, and USC wouldn't flinch at having to face any team in the SEC.

Great coaches still win. Urban Meyer was clearly a major talent when going undefeated at Utah. Chris Peterson the same at Boise State. Leach has good teams, but always has some astronomical beat down in his big games. I would like to have a coach who's won something before getting the job here.

I'm not excited. I'm not furious, like I was for Jones, but it is a wait and see approach with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Leach never coached in group of 5 level conferences. There's a difference in coaching there and winning a championship and in coaching an historically weak team in a power conference. It had been 30+ years since TT had won 10 games before Leach won 11 there. Their history was littered with 5-6/4-7 type seasons.

Like I said, the dramatic inconsistencies are a big concern to me. Even in the year he made it to #2, he loses 65-21 to Oklahoma. This year he starts 6-0, then gets drilled by Cal 37-3. Why can't he mitigate these games to give his team a better chance to win? He's simply all over the place. Plus, he's played in leagues without much in terms of defenses. That won't be the case in the SEC.

Big, big question marks for Leach, to me. Huge wild card. Tell me, do you see this as a guy who can have us in Atlanta 1-2 times every 5 years?

I think the question isn't is he Nick Saban, it's if he's better than Dave Doeren, who we dodged yesterday.

Is Leach a sure thing? Absolutely not. There aren't many of those and we aren't hiring one. But I'm anxious to see what he can do with talent.

Touche.

Mods feel free to merge.

I'm just excited and had to let everyone know about it.

I'm happy you're excited, bud, I really am. Hope it works out for us .

I follow college football but I've never heard about Leach and pirate stuff. Would love to know the history behind this and what he does on Gameday that's so fun. Go Vols

Washington State defense on the year....

2nd in the PAC 12 in total defense. 4th in the Nation in turnovers forced.

Most of us will take some inconsistency in big games for a level of consistent success and go from there. Hell, he beat Standford this year alone.

He sure as hell should be able to beat Florida and GA more than we have after the last 5 years.

Leach is the kind of dude who can beat Florida by 3 TDs and then lose by 30 to South Carolina. We've gone 20 years without a championship of some sort and that type of coach doesn't strike me as one who can do it. I'd rather some other major school experiment with him. The more I think about Leach, the less I like it.

I also wonder if Doeren was floated as a candidate to smooth over any actual coach we hire following that near miss.

Maybe I've heard too much about britches and resiliency in the last eight years, but I love this guy.

Ain't that the truth!

It's like listening to a Robot vs a Pirate.......

Arhhhhhhhh Mayteys!

Oklahoma was a defensive powerhouse when he was coaching at TT. It's what Stoops was known for. He'd go out and beat Mack Brown 10-3 when Texas would roll in averaging 45 points a game.

This year Washington is 5th in the nation in total defense. Leach has Washington State at 15th in the nation in total defense.

There are more SEC teams in the top 15 in total defense than Pac 12 teams this year, but that's in large part due to the offenses in the SEC being absolute trash this season. Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas, Vandy, Ole Miss, South Carolina etc were just putrid on offense and it bolstered league numbers on defense. The SEC doesn't have a load of overwhelmingly strong defenses like it appeared.

Beats USC, gets drilled by Cal. Beats Stanford, gets drilled by Arizona. Biggest game of the year, gets drilled by Washington. Sorry, I'm not looking for scattered wins against decent teams. I'm looking for something more.

I can find something wrong with just about every candidate who would consider Tennessee at this point. Who's your top candidate?

IMO we have held our own against GA and won at least 50% of the games if not more( to lazy to look up and at work). Flordia was just Butch coaching🗡🗡🗡☠️☠️☠️
