Are you going to go into 2008 season calling for him to retire/resign, or do you give him another year to see what he accomplishes?

assuming he wins the SEC not just the east I would say no one or a least very few people will be calling for him to retire or resign.
Now that being said I do think it would be best for him if he went out on top ..

He'll have gotten a pass if he wins the SECCG. Now get blown out in either the SECCG or the bowl game and his critics will not be silenced

In a season in which 5 of the 6 teams in the SEC East have been ranked in the top 25 and by mid-November there is not a single east team with a losing record.... if the Vols make it to the SECCG and win it.... that is enough evidence to me that the program is not in some spiraling doomed to destruction decline.

Looking at the history of the Vols, there are a few individual Championship seasons, however, a majority of the championships come in groups. With all of the talent returning, I forsee the potential for multiple championships in the future.

barring a monumental collapse these last two weeks, and a bowl loss, he's not going anywhere.....and rightfully so should we make it ATL.

Ain't no way fulmer's ever retiring---he'll be like bobby bowden, coaching till he's 95 years old.

If he goes to the SEC championship, one would be stupid to want him fired.
I'm gonna have fall into that category. Our backing into the SECCG doesn't change the past 8 years of backsliding nor does it change the three absolute beatings during which we quit in the 4th quarter.

I realize that change isn't going to happen if we get there, so I'll leave it alone, but it doesn't change the facts regarding the decline of our football program.

Have to disagree here. I want him gone, not backing away from that. But if we go, we aren't backing in. It will take winning out, to go. As for the mediocre East this year, Meyer and Richt had the same opportunity to win it.

Winning the east gives him at least one more year in my book. Everyone is talking about Georgia, well Georgia will be watching us on Dec. 1.

I'm not saying that we don't deserve to go. We do if we win out. No debating that. We've just been fortunate that the other SECe squads have the same consistency problems that we have because of a lack of quality defenses in this half of the conference. Does it diminish the accomplishment in my eyes? Sure. Does it change the fact that we have the right to go? Not in the least. Had we dominated the East, yet lost a couple of tight ones, I'd feel differently. However, we weren't even competitive in the games we lost and laid down in all 3 4th quarters. I think we're in line to play in the game in spite of our poor play, not because of our good play.

FL was very fortunate to go last year to...Could have very easily lost at Knoxville, and SC....Every season it takes a little help from lady luck to get to the dance..

GA, SC and ARK would disagree.......

i hear what you're saying and made a comment about this mentality yesterday.

i say this though........we talk about "backing in" right now, as to say we didn't/wouldn't have "won" the East otherwise.....

well, with that same breath, i can most certainly say there is something to "lose" in the next two weeks.
