If season.. So opening up with Florida.. Win?

You have a distorted view of this... and it does not seem that anyone can open your eyes. Someone's "grievances" or threats do not obligate someone else to roll over. If the school is clear about what they are offering but the athlete is after something else... that is NOT the fault or responsibility of the school. You must have been a spoiled kid to think that the everyone has to give in just because someone "whines" about a deal they agreed to being "unfair".

My view is quite clear. If I want change in a system, and have the leverage to bring it about ?! I will. And you clearly grew up in a system of privilege that benefits you.

I'm not one who has pumped HB. In fact, I have recently said that I like Salter's potential a little better based on what very little we know.

However, what I do STRONGLY suspect is that HB is a much quicker decision maker than JG. JG didn't "take a beating" last year. He took the longest of ANY SEC starter to deliver the ball... UT was mid pack in pass protection stats.

Blaming the OL has always been the "go to" for folks who do not want to see JG's very significant weaknesses.

UT isn't going to beat the best teams on the schedule without a difference maker at QB (positive difference maker). JG hasn't been that over his career. He doesn't anticipate throws well. He doesn't read post-snap coverages quickly enough to take advantage of openings. This shows up in his red zone passing stats and UT's red zone performance with him at QB.

JG was outside the top 100 nationally in passer rating in the RZ and 13th in the SEC. That's simply not good enough for a RS Jr with weapons like Callaway and Jennings.

I’ve been a supporter of JG all offseason on TOS. Defending him and believing he can flip the switch. I get annoyed by all the JG hate. But this, my friend, is one of the most reasonable, well-supported criticisms I’ve seen.

How would you know they were not comparable assuming every team has the same general pct of regression in talent ? You would not. Teams will still win and lose and we would still have playoff caliber teams and National Champions.
If every team, top to bottom, had the same "level of talent" ?! You're absolutely correct.

JG has never thrown a TD against Florida... or Alabama for that matter... in his entire career.
Yep.

Yet, I’ve actually heard Swain and others say he played well last year vs Alabama “before the play where he went rogue”....btw, he was 7-16 for 55 yards that game. For some reason, ppl are just delusional when it comes to just how poor a football player that kid is.

Ftr, he was a combined 17-33 for 162 yds, no TDs and 2 interceptions last year vs Fla and Bama....and, of course, the worst/dumbest fumble in Tennessee football history at the goal line vs Bama.

Do we ever beat Florida ?
Lol. Of course not. If you’re projecting the record for this or any other season, you’re a fool if you don’t start off with Tenn 0-1 because of the automatic loss to Florida. It’s a foregone conclusion.

He hasn’t remotely flipped the switch in any of this 3 previous seasons at Tennessee...that’s 34 games. Why all of a sudden, given what we know his weaknesses are (between the ears, inability to process information quick enough) should anybody expect him to “flip a switch”?

I’m a hopeful guy. Back in feb I predicted 2800+ Yds, 25+ TD, less than 10 int. With a 10 gm season and no OOC cupcakes, those numbers ain’t happening, but I still hope for a breakout season.

No one was arguing that they weren't replaceable. The argument is if they would be comparable. They wouldn't. As an aside, your opinion about someone's opinion, doesn't make it a fact.

They would not be comparable. And nobody would care. College football fans go to games to watch their team beat their hated rival team. If Alabama and Tennessee both lost all their top athletes and Tennessee was able to beat Bama, you wouldn't hear a single person complain about that. They would say "a win is a win" and move on.
