If no season, do Vols benefit?

I know we all WANT a football season but just hypothetically, what are your thoughts on this?

Personally, I think teams like us with a newer head coach can benefit greatly from it if played right. It lengthens the timeframe they can use to say "we are building something here" without possible negative results to contradict it. It helps last season's late surge become a focal point to where we are headed. I understand with the right coach the results will come and thus the recruits, but Pruitt is new to head coaching and this would give him a golden opportunity to have his next game be 100% his selected roster. I think he would thrive in that kind of opportunity.
Nope. UT would have to replace a very talented middle of their OL with players that they have had ZERO opportunity to season with playing time.

Pruitt has been on the job for 2 years. "We're building something" has to be backed up with something other than words in year 3. I like him. But he needs something tangible if we're talking recruiting.

Trey Smith and Brandon Kennedy are gone after this season whether it happens or not. Along with every other senior. I don't want anyone getting sick but aside from that there is zero upside to a shortened or vacated season.

Will be tracking to see if Brandon Kennedy gets a SEVENTH year of eligibility.

They can play in an empty stadium like the soccer people are in Europe..pump in crowd noise through the speakers and you get...a really weird experience..but you can watch football.

Well Sport, you’ve shown your true colors here. “THEY can play in an empty stadium..” In your blind eyes, it’s ok if the PLAYERS (Kids) get sick, as long as you can sit on a comfortable couch and watch the game. I think you should walk-on this Fall and strap on some pads and join the kids in practice and on the field......

This could he a pivotal year, like one where we absolutely explode on to the scene. Recruiting is already going extremely well. And overachieving year on the field could prove to be critical to the long term success for Pruitt. He would then be able to sell on the field and off the field coaching and development in his recruiting pitch and it could set us up for a good run the next 10 or so years.

You don't have football at all...it wouldn't help us one bit.

So much virtue signaling in one post and this isn't even the politics forum. I'd suggest you put the bottle down and remove the stick.

Remind me, how many current college or professional players have died or even been hospitalized from COVID? Plenty have tested positive. I know the answer already, just seeing if you do.

If you do that and expand the roster limit to still allow schools to sign an incoming class in the spring, that adds additional scholarships to pay for the year after all revenue is lost. Financially some schools may not be able to do that.

Correct, would definitely hurt smaller schools for sure.

Yep, looks like they'll recover. Lungs heal. Von Miller is training at full go again. More fear porn from the left wing news media.

How many deaths so far from college or professional athletes? They are literally more likely to die from just about anything than this. People need to get real.

So in your eyes, these young athletes have to die to meet your standard of pain and suffering?
Wow! Stay safe...

There you go. Media fed you anecdotal info and you now use the "if one gets really sick then all the rest of society must re-lockdown". Take the slighted lowest number which happens to get very ill and extrapolate that to all people from all categories. Its called "if you don't agree with me, then you dont care about people" argument. It gets old but its the same exact playbook we have seen for years.

Of course it is. Common sense has escaped these people's little pea brains, if they ever had any to begin with and it gets very frustrating to see this over and over and over again.

The only way it’s a positive is if all players are granted an extra year of eligibility.

Yep and we can thank our friends the Chinese...

So the Chinese control how we as a country deal with it? You just chalk it up to “well it’s China’s fault” and find no missteps on the part of our country’s leadership to adequately plan and have a coherent procedure in place for dealing with a pandemic? That’s the attitude I would expect from my 7 year old. But then again, a lot of things our current leadership prioritizes and does, reminds me of things my 7 year old would do or say.

I’m no fan of China’s government. But what do you want them to do? You think they care that we’re struggling with this? There a countries all over the world that have handled this much better than the US. Maybe we should try and learn something from them instead of just yelling “It’s China’s fault!” and going back to our beach parties and bars like this is going to go away on its own.

Our response (along with the world) would have been MUCH better had the Chinese alerted the world and WHO when the virus was initially discovered and then found to be easily transmitted among humans. Instead, the govt basically ignored (or silenced) their scientists warnings about the virus in Wuhan, allowing for both domestic and international flights out of Wuhan. Imagine a potent virus in multiple flights within China and outside of China, now beginning to rapidly spread thru out the world. Once the cat was let out of the bag, the only response left was political, both from Chinese and WHO.

While this was occurring the House was conducting impeachment votes, and threatening to take Trump to court if he shut down all air travel to/from China. He even caught flack from the Europeans when he threatened to close down air travel between the US and Europe. Everyone knew what the economic ramifications would be with these actions. Some state govt ignored the advice to close down large gatherings allowing for the Chinese New Years parade in NYC and Mardi Gras in New Orleans, hence the initial large outbreaks of the virus early on...

You are correct, your 7 year old could make better decisions than practically any big city mayors in this country...

I’m not sure but I’ll bet there are Force Majeure clauses in all these contracts that allow them to be cancelled. I believe I already read about one that’s been invoked already.

They are generally construed narrowly, despite catch all language. After swine flu, some people started to add pandemics to the laundry lists, but it wasn’t exactly a common practice to do so. So, without explicit language, it becomes a “We think we’re excused” while the other side says, “Not so fast my friend.” And that’s how a baby lawsuit is made.
