If I Were Mike Hamilton...

One thing that list shows is the idiocy of athletic directors hiring search firms. Football isn't even the sport I know best. If you're an athletic director at a school with resources comparable to UT and you can't put a list at least that good together on your own, you should be terminated immediately.

Harbaugh would be much higher, Leach and Graham would be gone, and Brady Hoke and Al Golden would be in their place.

Gruden wouldn't make your updated list? Do you think he's a lock for another NFL position and wouldn't take a college offer seriously or do you think he wouldn't be good at the college level?

Harbaugh and Kelly were two guys I was really high on, still am. Surprised to see Leach on that list.
He was near the bottom, where he should be. I like Leach's style, but i don't think it would translate into being a good head coach in the SEC, unless he hit a homerun for a DC. He is a little loose with his tongue also, Slive would have a field day with him.

I don't see Gruden coaching in college. He'll keep cashing ESPN checks until an NFL job he likes comes along.

I always thought the firms were more to vet the coaches and gauge their interest in the job. All without it leaking to the press.

agree 100%. I just cant seem him dealing with boosters and such.

On topic about Kiffin and Oakland:

I read one that one of the rifts that pushed Al Davis and Kiffin apart was that Kiffin DID NOT want JaMarcus Russell and Davis drafted him anyway.

How's that working out for the Raiders?

1. Agreed.
2. Disagree. Think he leached on to the success of the in-state recruiting of USC. I think Kiffin is given more credit than he deserves there.
3. Agreed.
4. Agreed.
5. I like Haslett, but I think he stays in STL.
6. Disagree. Once again I think that in-state talent makes him look better.
7. Would be my #1 choice right now.
8. I am iffy on him. If he is a HC/DC and leaves the OC alone to do his job, then I am ALL for it. Great recruiter as well.
9. Disagree.
10. Agreed. His players play well for him, no matter the situation.

If you took out Kiffin and Sarkisian and put Gruden and Gundy in their spots respectively, that would be the perfect list for me. I would also add Tim Brewster as a candidate with the job he has done with the Golden Gophers this season.

Eric.... :birgits_giggle:

Man, reading back through this gave me chills. I remember the day Kiffin got fired thinking he would end up a college coach somewhere, never would I have thought that a year and a few months later he would be coaching my Vols so brilliantly.

I am not going to lie at the very beginning I was all Butch Davis and Brian Kelly but was intrigued by Kiffin...glad it worked out the way it did. Though I still think BK will take a traditional down program and make it great someday...ND, Mich, ect.

Like a few trusted boosters couldn't do that. These "search firms" are nothing more than ADs scratching the backs of guys they think might help them advance their careers if they're successful or give them a job in the event they get canned.

Geez, why aren't you the king of the world? Kiffin was a good hire, but your ego proceeds you sir. Anyone who has to bump a thread to say "I Told You So", had their doubts in the first place. No respect from me.

Al Golden is setting himself up for a good job.

I've heard Charlie Strong is UVA's top target, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Golden making his way back to Charlottesville as Groh's replacement.

I didn't bump it. Next time, try knowing what you're talking about before you post ignorant drivel.

Why are there so many calling for Gruden in this thread? Like he would actually step down from an NFL job to come to college. Get real.........

I want Rick Minter!

Does anyone think that any other coach on the list would recruit as well as Kiffin and staff?
