If I Were Mike Hamilton...

I've gotten myself so damn hopeful about Jon Gruden that anyone else will be a disappointment initially.

And, honestly, I've never considered Gruden a realistic candidate at Tennessee...I just feel like hoping big.

I'm fairly confident that our next coach has been contacted and a hand shake deal has been made. Hamilton has been working on this for weeks now.

Gary Patterson is a great coach. He has one of the best D's in the country.

Butch Davis is getting old isn't he?

I would be making phone calls to representatives of the following individuals, in order:

1. Gary Patterson.
2. Lane Kiffin. - no
3. Todd Graham.
4. Brian Kelly.
5. Jim Haslett.
6. Steve Sarkisian. - no
7. Mike Leach.
8. Brent Venables.
9. Jim Harbaugh.
10. Mike Riley.
.

I can say with 100% certainty indirect contact has been made with 3 guys on that list.

Based on what I've heard I would assume Kiffin, Leach and no clue on the third.

I could be totally off though.

Butch got more money from the Cleveland Browns than he could spend in 10 lifetimes.

There is no such thing. He is a competitor and UT can offer more than UNC. Im not saying he will come but I sure hope they go after him hard!

I like the Sarkisian pick. Young guy with the credibility of having coached at USC. How much of his success was due to Kiffin though and vice versa? Tough to tell..

1. Agreed.
2. Disagree. Think he leached on to the success of the in-state recruiting of USC. I think Kiffin is given more credit than he deserves there.
3. Agreed.
4. Agreed.
5. I like Haslett, but I think he stays in STL.
6. Disagree. Once again I think that in-state talent makes him look better.
7. Would be my #1 choice right now.
8. I am iffy on him. If he is a HC/DC and leaves the OC alone to do his job, then I am ALL for it. Great recruiter as well.
9. Disagree.
10. Agreed. His players play well for him, no matter the situation.

If you took out Kiffin and Sarkisian and put Gruden and Gundy in their spots respectively, that would be the perfect list for me. I would also add Tim Brewster as a candidate with the job he has done with the Golden Gophers this season.

I don't see Leach's offense being very successful in the SEC. He's in the right conference for his type of offense...the Big 12 (no defense). Myer runs the spread at Fla but its the running spread (basically the same offense [VEER]that Johnson is running at Ga Tech but from the shotgun). Must be balanced to win in the SEC, not one sided.:twocents:

most SC fans think kiffen was a hack and sarkisian was the key to the offense. though after seeing sarkisian call plays for 2 years a lot of them have changed their tune. remember davis tried to hire sarkisian first.
