lets keep irrational and childish jokes aside

seriously, thoughts on how this might would affect Tennessee athletics.

a) are we royally screwed?

b) is there a chance he might do ok?
(assuming he doesn't take a micromanage approach to the football team)

Personally IDK if he's really qualified
and despite his lack of success in the later part of his coaching career I don't think anyone can doubt his loyalty and love for all things Tennessee.

still purely hypothetical but I'd like to hear your reactions without all the dramatic, passionate, blind hate.

stop for a min, and think....what if this does happen....

He made the football program all about him. I couldn't imagine his ego if he was incharge of the athletic program. Let's not lspread this rumuor. This reason alone is why MH should NOT be fired if this is the best we can do. You cannot. Hire a man that was fired. Its really sad as a fan base that we think this is the best we can do....

Why does Fulmer's name even get brought up for this position? I can't figure out why.

I've always felt that he would make a better AD than coach. As a coach, he often did more managing than coaching. I can't think of a better person to sell UT as a product, whether it's to potential donors or coaching hires. Unlike MH, he believes in UT. He's also experienced in dealing with the NCAA. Only concern I'd have would be his tendency to hang on to under-performing staff due to personal loyalties.

I see your point but our (the fans) discussion has absolutely no bearing on this whatsoever.

and I agree it would be awkward to hire he who had been fired. however......

I see a possible scenario in which things really start to snowball. All it would take would be another major incident like this whole Pearl debacle to land Hamilton on his butt, out the door. Add that the NCAA comes down harder than we all think and the powers that be may be looking for stability and whether its the right decision or not go with open arms to Fulmer.....i think its entirely possible

Would Fulmer need some help on the business end? Yes. Would he represent the University well? You better believe it. Does he know athletics better than Mike Hamilton. Oh yeah. I think he would make a fine choice. It would be nice to have a Vol running the program again.

I think it would be kind of a bad hire, but when Haslam becomes governor, it won't matter what I think. It will happen, IMO. Who knows though, he could do a great job, or he could do a bang up job. We'll see.

In his prime he was a great coach. I just can't see him as AD. Sadly, I know Haslam can. Tennessee needs separation from Fulmer at this point. I mean , why did we go in another direction if Fulmer is going to take the place of the guy who fired him. Like I said , he has done great things here in his time , but it's time to move on and hire someone that doesn't have a personal agenda. We know he isn't over how it ended , even if he got 6 million to move on.

Also great point by Dr Dread on personal loyalties.

It's so exciting, this potential return of the Fulmer...imagine the future of all UT athletics under his stewardship!

where are these rumors of fulmer taking over even coming from? i've yet to see one single piece of information about it other than on the forum. it's pure speculation, regardless of what happens in the governors race.

no, we know this purely hypothetical. I don't believe there is any reliable info out there but here is my thought:
