why did UT schedule an option team for the first game??

They didn't pick the opponent, they were asked if they wanted to play in the Kickoff Classic. Maybe they knew it was against GT, maybe not. I guess UT decided playing in a prime recruiting hotbed, like Atlanta on Labor Day, was more beneficial than playing some cupcake. No matter if it was an option team, that some people think is a dirty cut-blocking team, also. I agree and we win by 10+ points. Plus, we probably get a commit that day or soon after

It could be a completely different game thany anyone expects on either side-us winning or us losing.

This game isn't out doors on grass in weather elements. It's on turf inside. That option offense is a tricky thing to begin with. It could make them either faster or slower than they really are. If the D starts guessing instead of playing assignment football and over running the play due to hustle, it could be bad for us.0

Better defensive minds than me please correct me, but a battle with the triple option is won or lost on the d line playing disciplined gap control. I gotta believe coach Hoke will have them ready.

It was known that the opponent would be Georgia Tech. Argued in a thread on here when it was proposed. Never saw the benefit. We play UGA every year, so we don't need the exposure for recruiting and their scheme is a pain. That being said, it was done and we move on. :gone:

It's still Atlanta, on Labor Day, on ESPN as the premier and maybe, only game of the day. Plus, we get to host recruits like it's a home game. Win/ win situation, imo. And we didn't schedule GT, even if we knew we were playing them, like I said the Kickoff Classic chose the opponent

And the opponent was KNOWN when we accepted...that was my point. I don't see the "win/win" that you do, but no matter. They're on our schedule and we roll with it.

U don't see the upside of hosting recruits in Atlanta, at a brand new stadium and being the primetime game on Labor Day? Now, if UT losses then I can see it being a loss in more ways than one. I just don't see that happening but stranger things have

The bigger concern has been getting out of there without a bunch of injuries.

I feel real confident in a win...and I don't perceive the recruiting boon. If they host a recruit, I believe that counts as an official visit...which is better spent on campus. The Battle of Bristol was a unique, one time prime time event and it didn't seem to propel our 17 class...this won't either imo.

But u can't compare Bristol to Atlanta. Maybe as an event, but not in recruiting. A quarter of our roster is probably from Georgia and a third of the Georgia kids are probably from metro Atlanta. Plus, the talent in metro Atlanta compared to metro Bristol is more of a mismatch than UT-ETSU would be in football

You brought up the event aspect. Brand new stadium and such. And Bristol was very accessible to NC,VA and D.C. talent. Yes Georgia talent is vital to our program but we won't be hosting a majority of that...if anything most will go on their own dime to avoid wasting an official visit.

If I was a young 18 year old, it would be impressive to me.

But, if I am visiting all these other schools, by the end of the year it might not be a fresh memory.

I didn't realize GT returns 17 starters from their 9-4 squad (that also beat VT last year).

I think we win but it may not be easy.

Lost their QB. In that system it's even more a loss and this will be the first game for the lightly recruited replacement. We smoke em. And yes, I'm aware we have a new starter...resume smoking. :aggressive:

Was just gonna ask you that. Wasn't sure if you knew.

Seriously, I'm with you, but I just can't help having just a little uncertainty. I mean, if I had to make up a percentage number like your "buddy", Id say I feel about 85-90 confident.

I'm going 99.8% and I'll shout down any dissent by multi-quoting it as a FACT. :wink2:

No joke butchna, I'm so excited about season it's sometimes hard to contain myself. I was thinking the other day how I might be more excited about this season than I was about last season, then I realized, I'm like this every year.

Not to start another Nega/Posi debate, but it's disappointing to see others so down and discouraged that they forget what it's all about. Anyway, I appreciate your views and attitude. Tifwiw.

It's just around the corner and soon all questions will be answered. Woot!

Agreed. There is excitement in the unknown. It's why I even enjoy coaching searches. :)

I'm the same way every year. By kickoff the first game, we're going undefeated and winning the NC

I'll be in ATL with my BIL who's a GT fan. We need to win

Unbridled Optimism is the way to go. We will lose another game, but I doesn't have to be in 2017.

Go Vols!

Win em all!

Your optimism is respected. I used to be that way as well...believe it or not :p. But many of us have been let down so much for so long and what CBJ has shown so far coaching wise and overall development....many have little to no faith that it will get....consistently better than 8-4. Concerning. But the problem is at the very top....that trickles down. We will see with all the new faces in the program

You have a right to be as hype and pro CBJ as you want. As we have a right to express frustration bc of constant let downs. Go Vols!
