I never get tired of watching this

Was there with my Dad sitting in the same end zone as the band, just the opposite pylon. When everyone started piling out, we were both dejected and in despair, but instead of leaving, we went up the sideline about the 40 to a huge void of vacated seats only a few rows back from field level. We knew the game was over and TN's national title hopes with it, but we figured we'd never see the action from that close again, and if nothing else it was our duty to the team to suffer the end with them. I'd only been in the empty void for a couple plays when I saw Stoerner plain as day get tripped by his own lineman, he used the ball on the ground to keep himself upright but lost his grip from the contact; he kept going but the ball stayed behind. FUMBLEEEEEEE!!!!! I shouted, and I remember a line of fans walking up the stairs heard my shout and slid in next to my Dad and I as those that hadn't left the stadium lost their minds. It felt like "our" victory for staying the course just as much as it was the team's.

What a magical season. All of the breaks went our way, the ball bounced the right way, we made game winning FGs. I still think we are paying the price today for all of the things that went in our favor in 98. Note - this year with missed FGs, pick sixes, fumble sixes. Everything that went our way in 98 had been the polar opposite this year (and others) since then

The refs blew a call in the Arkansas game that would’ve made the fumble unnecessary.

We lost the best RB on the planet the 4th game of the season.

No, Tennessee didn’t get all the breaks. Tennessee capitalized on the breaks it got and overcame the bad breaks so no one remembers them.

Burlsworth was a quality player and person. Wish he had been a VFL. GBO!
Saw his movie. Forget the title. Very sad that he died in a car crash. Sounds like he was a high integrity guy and great player. In the movie he feels terrible about steppIng on Stoerners foot. Of course they show the game the following year when they beat us by the same score and knocked us out of playing FL State for another Natty. That loss hurt. We were ranked #2 in the BCS before that game. So many squander opportunities in that era by losing to teams we should have beaten

I was a middle schooler, watching the game at home. About midway through the 3rd quarter, while we were making a comeback, we had to go to a church choir concert that my sister was in. I tried my hardest to convince my parents to let me stay home, but they didn’t cave. I was so mad, mainly because we had to get there an hour early, for my sister’s final rehearsal before the performance. I finally convinced my dad to let me listen to the game on the radio in the car until the performance started.

So all from John Ward, I heard about the snap that was centered over the Arky punter’s head, us turning the ball back over to Arky on downs, the stumble and fumble, and Travis Henry carrying us home. It was a wild sea of emotions, all in a church parking lot.

Noted. I always forget about the punt.
