one of these three feats this year:

I like all of the coaches at Tennessee but Josh has accomplished more in his first 4 years than Barnes or Vitello did. And he’s done it under scholarship reductions & NCAA probation.

This isn’t a knock on Barnes or Vitello but simply a compliment to the job Heupel has done here.

Uh, not really lol. Tony has a championship ring and Barnes has been to back to back elite eights.

Heupel has done an incredible job so far. But I’d 100% rank Rick and Tony over him.

It’s funny. But Butch has our last 2 wins against UGA and has come closer in Gainesville and Tuscaloosa than Heupel. The 2023 Florida game was horrid.
Okay, but Jones didn't play/win against Kirby Smart's UGA, didn't record one win against AL, and had 1 win vs FL. In five seasons. His conference record was above .500 just one season.
There's no comparison there.

The "roster problem" starts to evaporate fast in your 5th year and is a memory in year 6. Highly respectable success thus far (except vs. GA) considering where we were.

As a Vol fan for 40+ years, I just hope we don't migrate back toward the mediocre days of the 70s and early 80s and get conditioned to that.

Number 1. Kirby WAS UGAs coach when Jones scored our last win.

Number 2 - the entire topic of this conversation outside of beating UGA …is winning in Gainesville and Tuscaloosa. It’s not about whether or not Heupel is a better coach than Jones. He obviously is. You guys are so excited to share your football knowledge with the class that you can’t even exhibit basic reading comprehension. ^^^^ Everything you said up there WE ALL KNOW.

Little bit of a control freak, aren't you?

Winning in the swamp would be huge for me. More than beating Georgia. More than beating Alabama at BDS.

If we win at the Swamp this year we not only break that streak, but we then have beaten Florida 3 of the last 4 times we played them.

What a turnaround that would be to the trend of that series.

Yes. If I had to choose it would be Florida in the swamp. This streak is the most frustrating since they have really not had very good teams over the past 12-15 years. Still kills me that Butch lost on back to back hail Mary’s in the swamp. Ridiculous. If Heupel can’t get this psychological baggage behind us I will be concerned

I don’t know I thought in year 4 Tony and Rick had huge improvements. Maybe year 5 so for Heupel to keep pace this year needs to be a big one

The ceiling is raised by upping the recruiting game and being willing to work with championship coaches who he doesn’t have a close relationship with. The players love him and he’s an offensive genius. Some thought that Spurrier had hit his ceiling and he hired Bob Stoops. I think there’s a small amount of correlation here.
My eyes are getting worse but I haven’t seen a whole lot since 2022 that would suggest an offensive genius was nearby

Butch beat UGA when UT had the better team. Butch also only beat UF once in 5 years and choked away 3 of the games. Heupel has beat Florida AND Bama 2 out of 4 years.

They did. They also had losing or .500 seasons their first year or two. You can make a lot of arguments about strength of the league, schedules, between the 3 etc but just looking at where the program was when JH took over, what they’ve had to overcome, he’s done a great job. Jmo.

I said “during their first 4 years”. Did you miss that? Josh has 2 top ten finishes. None of Barnes elite eights were in his first 4 years. Tony’s NC wasn’t in his first 4 years.

Ffs that was a much different Georgia team.
FFS the guy made a funny pic of Butch. FFS…I responded that it’s funny…but among other things Butch has the last win against UGA. FFS…what type of UGA team it was isn’t even the point. FFS…do you think I don’t know it was a different level of UGA team??

It depends on the QB play. If Joey A. can pick up the offense enough to run tempo and be accurate, then we have a shot to pull off all 3. I'm also assuming the defense doesn't drop off too much (it shouldn't). What if we come closer to the '22 offense than the '23 offense? With a close enough defense to last years and that kind of offensive production, we could do it. Remember that youth may not mean a poor roster. Do we have any receivers that can take the top off who is taller than 5'7" (sorry Squirrel)? Maybe Nico's deep ball struggles were the problem, and not the speed in the WR room. I do know for sure that Joey can throw the deep ball.

I'm about to have a teenager who watched us beat Bama twice in her lifetime (thankfully she witnessed both in person).

*also watched FL last year, we couldn't make it in '22 (but it's only happened 3 times in her life).
You're about to have a teenager?
That's a long gestation period. It's usually only 9 months.
