I love Hurd but..

it seems the read option causes Hurd to start slow. if he were in the I formation, he could go full speed when he gets the ball and run down hill. he has to almost stop, get the ball and then start running again. if he tries to go outside it's even harder.

Exactly, everything happens so slow with this offense. Seems like the coaches would at least try to let him get the ball at speed. Defenses would get tired of having to tackle him coming down hill.

Hood and his counterpart at UNC actually outrushed Chubb and his counterpart at UGA. The UNC game total rush stat was >8 ypc and UGA rush stat was >5 ypc. Have yet to see in recent memory Chubb have a pass thrown in his direction and completed. A good back is Chubb but not as good as Hood? There are stats to support that point of view. I know it breaks a few hearts here on VN but perhaps you need to start fanboy club for Hood to assuage your hurt.

Well, if you back out the 3 carries for -5 in the victory formation and the 4 sacks for about -30 credited to the QBs the RB rushing average gets very close. Having said that, Hood and Logan are a very good thunder and lightning combo. Maybe the Dawgs average would have been better if we weren't down to the #5 RB getting the bulk of the #2 carries.

Hurd is an exceptional RB.

He dragged so many defenders for net minimal gains.

No blocking and still had over 100 yards.

AND he was the best pass blocker we had!

All true. But, he rarely breaks out of the pack for a long run. Gets tripped up a lot coming out of the scrum by the last defender. Needs to break out a long run to the end zone occasionally.

I like Chubb and Hurd but the 2 best backs in the country and best potential for NFL are:

Fornette at LSU
Elijah Hood at NC. Dude reminds me of Earl Campbell.

:loco:

Tennesseeduke

Dalvin Cook is arguably the most explosive, big play RB in the country. Should add him to the list IMO.

Well thanks for the opinions everyone - sorry to inconvenience the few of you who think I'm a hater.

If you look at my original post I said I think Hurd is just as good and I'm wondering what the main reason is for him not being as productive .

For me- it's because we run a spread offense that can't pass the ball.

So a loaded box without a lead blocker ..

Hurd had a bad showing against App St. He reminded of Rajuon Neal. Lots of shoe string tackles or the inability to shed a linebacker and move forward.
