The bottom line is that both Gilbert and Beck are proof that the brain isn't fully developed until age 25, and that the part of the brain that controls impulse behavior (the prefrontal cortex) is the last to reach maturity.

When the umpire had the first conversation with Gilbert earlier in the game, warning him to tone it down, and Gilbert replies, "I know. I just get excited," that's a response a BOY would give, not a grown man.

Like I said last night, this was a hard life lesson. There is obviously some growing up to do, and I hope it will help the guys in their development.

Gilbert was right because the pitch was way low!. Not to mention he got hit in his first at bat and should have been on then as well!

I was a little hot last night about him getting tossed, but it was warranted. That kind of behavior cannot become tolerated or normal in the game.

Gilbert asked for it and got it. He needs to get his emotions under control. A public apology is what I would insist on if I were his parent or his coach.

Heck the parents act worse than the kids at most sports events these days. Most have never touched a ball in their lives. What does that teach the kids?

The problem is some of the boomer generation who had everything handed to them, most of them don’t understand the concept of hard work

I think you are confused. You mean most Gen Xers and Millennials haven’t been exposed to hard work. A lot of the younger folks I know want things handed to them on a platter. Have had to interview my share for trying to hire people. Most baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) I know had and still have a pretty good work ethic. I’m right in the middle of that range so that’s pretty much all of my friends. Of course maybe I run in different circles than you do.

As far as this debate goes, I don’t think it will hurt Gilbert or Beck’s draft status. They are too talented. But I think Gilbert and the team learned a valuable lesson. You can kick, whine and moan about the umps all you like but at the end of the day they are in control and yes they can run you at any time. Gilbert got mouthy once too often and he got run as he should have. Hopefully he learned something from it. So far the team has responded well.

These children need to grow up and learn how to focus their energy and intensity into something positive. As a parent, when my kids argue and be disrespectful, I make sure they understand how that might impact everything around them negatively and that if they used that energy to focus on the task at hand, it can be very empowering.

Maybe, just maybe, CTV and company can get some control back over this crappy attitude stuff.

What on earth are you talking about? Crappy attitude? This team has more passion than any team in any sport we have seen in years. This team has been the most fun thing to watch since the NC football team.

Beck has all the tools to be a first round pick.

Gilbert could go late first round to a second round pick.

The tossing the "bird" to the Tech players by Beck,could have been from his frustration at his slump.Other teams will ride you to get you off your game.Beck's bird was release for him,me,I would have thrown in a sit and spin on it also.Just the way my wiring goes.

This is what I'm sick and tired of, people downing our players and saying they should control their emotions but excuse the umpire, who is supposed to be a professional, making bad call after bad call. Don't suck at your job so bad that it causes someone to lose the temper. Not a single one of us is perfect about controlling our anger.

That ump was so SOFT that his Viagra has to take Viagra.

Don't suck and you won't have to worry about someone saying you suck.

Umpires need to be held accountable publicly. They should have to do post game interviews.

I don’t disagree with Drew, the guy didn’t know balls from strikes…just next time maybe not drop the F bomb. Anyway, it’s not like other sports aren’t the same. Hockey, basketball, football…all our players have moments of foul language. Get over it or just stop watching if it offends you.
