I hope JG proves myself and all the doubters wrong vs UF...

and other very good SEC teams the rest of the season! But, I think he shats his pants again vs UF and we will have a FRESHMAN QB no later than midway through the season. My money is on Maurer for UT's offensive success. Yes, he was 0-2 today. But, I can tell he has the moxy and skillset to get it done. It is much different for him to lead a lot of 2nd stringers than have the entire 1st string with him. If JG struggles in the 1st quarter vs UF, look for Maurer to come in and be a very good QB!!!!!!!
Maybe Maurer, but not Shrout!

I'm rooting for him. He's a good kid. I don't understand having a personal hatred for kids who chose to be here. Some of you act like you would spit on this 21 year old if you saw him, which is pathetic. Our only chance at a bowl is for him to play better, so obviously I'm rooting hard for that.

This QB "controversy" is about as stupid as trying to argue which Star Wars prequel is the best.

They all suck in their own special way.

Pruitt should have made a full court press for one of the elite transfer QBs if they wanted to compete this season.

He is a good kid and he is trying, he just isn't very good.

That’s where I am. I absolutely want him to ball out and the game to just ā€œclickā€ for him. But as a 3rd year starter if it hasn’t happened yet, it may not ever happen. I just want the best person who can help us win to play.

I don't know how much can be learned from today's game.

But, one thing that I think was pretty clear.....JG is the best QB on that roster.

It's not close

You're right. That means UT may be experiencing their worst team in history again or tying that team at 4-8.

It is what it is.

Thank Joe Smith Maurer didn't come in after JG got punked by a BYU player. Maurer could be like 0-4 in his 4 times on field! Can you imagine the horror?!?

Whats Maurers record as a starter?
He's not good enough to start!

I agree JG playing with 1st team, Mauer and Shrout playing with 2nd glad they got playing time, JG with so many more starts than both I thought they played
as good as you could expect...…….. ……………..

Florida>Jersey sorry your guy sucks!
Only dummies think Maurer played a tougher schedule in high school.

JG played for a nationally ranked team that played other ranked teams. In fact JG played the best Florida team either one played.

Of course you missed the point anyway. JG has a better record vs college teams than BM vs one of the weakest high school divisions in his state.

My, my, my these threads have my head spinning today. We've got the JG pumpers vs the skeptics, ahem, realists. I'm team skeptic, but for the sake of everyone, here's some neutral observations. Pruitt was correct about JG being the best qb on the team. I think technically he's not, however, the back-ups don't have the experience and it showed today. That's the coaches fault. Those that are saying JG would have had more tds have the youngsters not played, just stop. Yes, he probably would have, but you're an idiot if you disagree with the backups getting snaps. It should go without saying and your argument is logically invalid. Bottom line, JG is not an sec quality QB, but the best we have on the roster. Maurer is promising, and I think majority would agree that he would play better with the 1s. Shrout has quite the arm, but he's very rough around the edges. All in all, we don't currently have a QB talented or seasoned enough to compete with other sec teams. I don't want JG to fail. I'd like nothing more to see him turn it around, but realistically, he's just not good enough to score the points we need against to win against sec teams. I know we love our vols, and I admire some of y'alls optimism, I really do. I just know what it takes to win, and right now, we don't have it.

I think next week is JG's last game as UT's starting QB. I think FL lights him up Nathan Peterman style and we move on to Shrout or Maurer after that.

Hands down Strout outplayed Maurer...not even close.
