I understand the sentiment, Doc, but I hardly think empty seats against NIU is gonna do much good.
:dunno:
Cool.. D Section... 4 seats
I may look for them and sit there... They're A LOT Better than the seats I have
. . . .Without words.
The past few weeks in Knoxville have been filled with frustration, bullheadedness, finger-pointing, arguing, lame excuses, false promises, and (worst of all) apathy amongst the Vol Faithful. However, it is quite unreasonable for me to believe that my name on some internet petition, a huffy e-mail to MH, or trying to squeeze a phone call into Vol Calls between the blind sheep will effect change.
Therefore, I will make my feelings known on Saturday with four empty seats in section D. There will be no boos, taunts, bird-flipping, or objects thrown. But, there will also be no cheering, orange-and-white shakers, or overpriced concession consumption. . . .just bare, silent aluminum bleachers.
Not to sound too melodramatic, but this has been a very difficult decision for me. I would be lying if I said that UT football wasn't part of the reason I chose to move back to the Knoxville area to start my practice. I haven't missed a home game since my return, and my tailgate preparation lasts from Thursday night until Sunday. I used to drive up from Florida at least once a fall and have visited many of the other SEC stadiums in support of the Vols. I have a Tennessee Orange exam room, boat, pool table, bathroom, and boxers. To say that I'm anything but a true fan approaches insulting my family.
I'm all Vol, but I'm also sick of mediocrity, and this is the only way that I know to show it.
There will be plenty of good empty seats Saturday. You will be able to sit wherever you want.
I am with you Doc, I am not going either. I am a VASF Donor and season ticket holder as well. I know they already have my money this year for the donation and tickets, but I don't have to go and spend money on concession. When I saw the University estimated they lost $100,000 in concessions alone just by people leaving early in the Florida game, it opened my eyes. When they start losing this kind of money after what they spent on the stadium renovations, I feel like they will have to do something.
Boycotting the UGA game just makes better sense to me. It will be on national television and will be watched by more than just Vol / NIU fans.

The loss of concessions revenue alone will be noticed. By the way, you folks going to the game try to buy as little stuff as possible from the concessionaires. Also LIO a whole bunch of empty seats will be noticed by administration and high dollar boosters.
Figuring roughly 70K at the game = 30000+ empty seats. Multiply by two drinks and dogs ($15) = $450000. . . .for one game. Suddenly, over time, a contract buyout and a high-dollar coach doesn't seem like such a ridiculous sum of money. This doesn't even account for merchandise. I don't have any way to quantify how much money is being lost right now, but I'm sure that Hounddogs, McMillian's, Tennessee Traditions, et al are feeling the crunch.
The value of "empty seats" has immeasurables, as well. The University doesn't want to see its partially-renovated stadium 1/4 empty, which is about what I expect Saturday.
It's painful to miss out on one of my few guilty pleasures, but I'm willing to endure a little bit more than some in hope of greener pastures. Nothing makes me sicker than the loser-mentality of "who you gonna get" or "just wait until Fulmer's gone."
My point is that, like Alabama in the "lean years," we know what championship-caliber football is all about, and I'm willing to do my part to get there again.
If we don't take action now,
We'll settle for nothing later

If you're trying to make a statement, listen to Bob on the radio against NIU at least and more importantly Bama and Georgia. I ain't gonna explain it any more since y'all get it.Do you know how PPV works? I must admit, I don't know. I assume the University gets a cut out of that as well.
Maybe, instead of getting it on PPV at home, it would be better to go to a sports bar and watch it. .
