I Have Decided To Speak

Well kiddiedoc...I am solidly behind you on this one, as much as it hurts. I, too, will not be attending the NIU game but I will find a way to listen or watch somehow because I literally cannot do otherwise.

Just don't buy the PPV.

I understand the sentiment, Doc, but I hardly think empty seats against NIU is gonna do much good.

:dunno:

Think of it this way:

If a Movie was god-awful horrible and was constantly discredited by critics and fans(viewers), then the only way it be considered a success is if people (fans) continued buying tickets and viewing it, which also includes them purchasing concessions, despite how bad the movie was. The Producer (headCoach) would then not be in Hot-Water since the movie was generating profit. The studio (Athletic Dept) doesn't care if people like it, as long as they keep paying to see it and its Subsequent sequels, despite their suckiness.

Make Sense??

Well Doc, I'm disappointed. I thought I'd get to meet ya. I'm with Doozer, throw your row and seat numbers out... He won't even be able to walk by 7 pm... Hahaha :D

Cool.. D Section... 4 seats

I may look for them and sit there... They're A LOT Better than the seats I have

There will be plenty of good empty seats Saturday. You will be able to sit wherever you want.

I am with you Doc, I am not going either. I am a VASF Donor and season ticket holder as well. I know they already have my money this year for the donation and tickets, but I don't have to go and spend money on concession. When I saw the University estimated they lost $100,000 in concessions alone just by people leaving early in the Florida game, it opened my eyes. When they start losing this kind of money after what they spent on the stadium renovations, I feel like they will have to do something.

Tennisguy, you are finally seeing the light. Don't go. Encourage others not to go. A lot of empty seats will eventually force their hand.

. . . .Without words.

The past few weeks in Knoxville have been filled with frustration, bullheadedness, finger-pointing, arguing, lame excuses, false promises, and (worst of all) apathy amongst the Vol Faithful. However, it is quite unreasonable for me to believe that my name on some internet petition, a huffy e-mail to MH, or trying to squeeze a phone call into Vol Calls between the blind sheep will effect change.

Therefore, I will make my feelings known on Saturday with four empty seats in section D. There will be no boos, taunts, bird-flipping, or objects thrown. But, there will also be no cheering, orange-and-white shakers, or overpriced concession consumption. . . .just bare, silent aluminum bleachers.

Not to sound too melodramatic, but this has been a very difficult decision for me. I would be lying if I said that UT football wasn't part of the reason I chose to move back to the Knoxville area to start my practice. I haven't missed a home game since my return, and my tailgate preparation lasts from Thursday night until Sunday. I used to drive up from Florida at least once a fall and have visited many of the other SEC stadiums in support of the Vols. I have a Tennessee Orange exam room, boat, pool table, bathroom, and boxers. To say that I'm anything but a true fan approaches insulting my family.

I'm all Vol, but I'm also sick of mediocrity, and this is the only way that I know to show it.

Very well said......much props bro.

Figuring roughly 70K at the game = 30000+ empty seats. Multiply by two drinks and dogs ($15) = $450000. . . .for one game. Suddenly, over time, a contract buyout and a high-dollar coach doesn't seem like such a ridiculous sum of money. This doesn't even account for merchandise. I don't have any way to quantify how much money is being lost right now, but I'm sure that Hounddogs, McMillian's, Tennessee Traditions, et al are feeling the crunch.

The value of "empty seats" has immeasurables, as well. The University doesn't want to see its partially-renovated stadium 1/4 empty, which is about what I expect Saturday.

It's painful to miss out on one of my few guilty pleasures, but I'm willing to endure a little bit more than some in hope of greener pastures. Nothing makes me sicker than the loser-mentality of "who you gonna get" or "just wait until Fulmer's gone."

My point is that, like Alabama in the "lean years," we know what championship-caliber football is all about, and I'm willing to do my part to get there again.

Boycotting the UGA game just makes better sense to me. It will be on national television and will be watched by more than just Vol / NIU fans.

LOL. I went two years ago and would likely have made the trip again this year if circumstances were otherwise. So, I guess I'm kind of boycotting the UGA game. :p

The loss of concessions revenue alone will be noticed. By the way, you folks going to the game try to buy as little stuff as possible from the concessionaires. Also LIO a whole bunch of empty seats will be noticed by administration and high dollar boosters.

well if you've used the new, "redesigned" bathrooms it's impossible to go and still hit the concession stand. I'm guessing they were designed by a 1st year architecture student (or perhaps a nursing student)

wow its really sad to see it come to this but unfortunately I agree with the poster about the empty seats. Although I do agree with LIO about it just being the NIU game. Less of a turnout is expected. Dont go to the Bama game that will make more of a difference.

I meant at halftime :p. It's a bit of a cluster
I hear ya. I was just confused how you were gonna take a leak and "hit the concession stand". I thought you were talking about your ability to "hit" a target with your stream.... :eek:lol:

KG: Not only is your decision an appropriate one, but most effective! I think it's the ONLY way to effect the changes so desperately needed. When Neyland is about half filled there will be changes. That is the ultimate vote and it will be counted! I gave up my 12 tickets a while back when I could no longer stomach losing games that should have been won...time and time again...when I knew we had superior talent. I think this year it will happen.

Do you know how PPV works? I must admit, I don't know. I assume the University gets a cut out of that as well.

If this is true, here is another thought. I know all of us fans want to see the game, even if we choose not to go for obvious reasons mentioned in this thread. Maybe, instead of getting it on PPV at home, it would be better to go to a sports bar and watch it. You are talking about a few hundred people giving money to the sports bar (eats and drinks) versus a percentage of the PPV money going to the University when these people pay for it and watch it at home. Just a thought.

Hear, hear! I too will stay home with my 2 tickets and suffer through the play-calling of the legendary Bob Kesling. I would like to call on any other ticket holders who support change in the program to do likewise.

On the other hand...it may be a good, close game! I will probably end up at a sports bar to witness this.

If you're trying to make a statement, listen to Bob on the radio against NIU at least and more importantly Bama and Georgia. I ain't gonna explain it any more since y'all get it.
