I for one felt like Tim Banks blitzed quite a bit! I don’t think pressure was the issue. On offense, you have to have clock management, every team in the country at every level does. That’s not a 180 in gameplan. A 180 would be coming out in the second half and running I formation
I do get your point though
Gambling Gators was playing with house money and had some pretty good luck. That said we won anyway. Glad to see their coach is bad at math. Maybe he thinks this is a throw away year or maybe he’s going to coach like this which will bite him down the road. Enjoy the win.
Wow, finally someone who gets it. I totally agree. We knew coming into this season that the defense was a liability. If Heupel knows the defense is a liability then why did he stop trying to score half way through the 4th quarter and let FL catch up so that we have to cover a Hail Marry to win?
Who are the 2022 Volunteers? A team that goes fast scores bunches of points, Right? Right? Then why did we do a 180 on offense in the 4th quarter and slow the team down and turn into 3 yds and a cloud of dust? And totally lose all continuity on offense almost costing us that game. Yes we played Zone to try and make AR-15 beat us and he damn near did, my issue with our defense was they did not try anything different all game long. We sat back in zone did not blitz and let AR-15 have all day to to throw the ball we never made him uncomfortable.
I will go back to my earlier statement "if you are going to do a 180 on offense, then why not at least try something different on defense"? It is a valid point and one our coaching staff have to look at.
Go eagles! I got to ride home from an FCA retreat with coach sparks when I was at CN. that man was a fount of wisdom.I was born and raised in East Tennessee there, sugar tits. Played at Carson Newman in the late 90's. Joined the military after college and moved all over the country. Yes, I did live up north at the time when I made this screen name. I've since retired from the mitary and yes, I do live back in the south now. Here's your problem, you're a typical sniveling crybaby who can't accept that anybody would dare disagree with your idea that average is just fine. Just OK is just fine with guys like you. Hey, whatever my guy..... you do you. As for me, I've never been fine with just OK. Once again, if that hurts your precious little feelings, go cry on somebody else's shoulder because I really don't give a damn.
If you want to be frustrated by the defense thats fine but at least know WHY the defense is frustrating you. Our secondary and linebackers are complete slaw! We're starting a converted, undersized RB and a Texas transfer that they did not want at LB. Our DB's are SLOW. The reason we play such soft coverage is because Banks knows this and he's opting to keep everything in front of the defense and hope the opposing offense makes a mistake. There is nothing wrong with our schemes! We literally do not have the speed and athleticism on the back 7 to stop anybody! To simply blame Banks and Martinez and call for their jobs is a lazy take on the whole situation! We do not have the horses on defense yet to compete with the elite teams in the SEC!
Tickled we won. However one cannot ignore a QB unable to throw a single TD pass in 3 games, came to town and completed 4 of them against us. He also routinely converted 3rd and 4th downs all day against us using the forward pass. We kept them in the game until the final play when we were up by 17 with a little over 5 minutes to play allowing them to openly complete pass after pass against us. Something on The Hill is rotten in Denmark with our pass defense.
I think alot are forgetting. Normal teams would have punted on all them 4th downs and the stats would be completely different. They made this game close because of Defense of course but mostly so aggressive on 4th down and not punting.I don’t get the people who are ready to jump off a cliff because Florida put up some yards and AR had a good game. Every. Single. Game. Is going to be different, teams win in different ways every week. These coaches put in game plans and schemes all week to prepare for what they think will work to slow down the opponent. This isn’t a video game where you can just throw everything you’ve preached all week out the window and do a complete 180 on your gameplan. I get it, it’s frustrating, but it doesn’t mean the gameplan against Lsu won’t work perfectly and they have half the yards.
The zone coverage calls were to make AR beat us, and of course he played the game of his life. In my opinion we wasn’t running man, because we didn’t want a reoccurrence of Ole Miss last year. When you are manned up across the board and Db’s are chasing receivers you make it so hard on yourself to stop a running Qb. Everybody in the country all week long continuously said, Make AR beat you with his arm. Well, we ran the defense to force him to do that, and the kid played great. Hell, they have game plans and practice too. Be happy that we are 4-0 and are finding ways to win these games FINALLY.
I love volnation and I love this team, but people need to take a step back sometimes and chill. Enjoy the ride and the process, quit expecting everything to be perfect all the time in this sport. Sorry for the long post, GO VOLS!
Issue wasn’t playing zone, it was playing awful zone. Some windows were way to open. Also, yes you can change game plans. It’s called adjustments. But at the end of the day we won and that’s all I give a damn about.
Before this game started, the consensus was to beat Florida we had to stop AR from running wild. A defensive game plan for that goes against the idea of man coverage and mega blitzing. We followed the game plan and although AR passed better than he has all season we still won. I’ve watched a decent amount of Florida’s first 3 games and AR made throws against us that he wasn’t making before. Tip your hat to him and move on to lsu with the W!Fair point but I honestly believe had we adjusted our game plan to what they were doing this game would not have been close, Im actually not a Banks hater, I think he is a good coordinator and I loved the game he called against Pitt, I just think we played scared on D and it nearly bit us, there may have been reasons we are not aware of that caused them to play that way but from the outside looking in we could have done alot better with different playcalling.
I just said this in another post but I hate hearing Richardson had the game of his life because no quarterback would be starting at Florida that couldnt hit a wide open receiver with all day to pass the ball, we made him look good because our defense was so bad, I understand the game plan but clearly it wasnt working so you adjust, it was a sold plan until it didnt work then you have to improvise and we didnt, Im not unhappy I just hope we learn from this game moving forward. Before this game started, the consensus was to beat Florida we had to stop AR from running wild. But, but, but . . . we were without Tillman, and OH NO! What are we going to do now??? If you went back and reviewed his prior games this season I think you might change your mind. AR was in a bad slump throwing the ball missing wide open receivers, throws he made last year.
