I don’t get the people who are ready to jump off a cliff because Florida put up some yards and AR had a good game. Every. Single. Game. Is going to be different, teams win in different ways every week. These coaches put in game plans and schemes all week to prepare for what they think will work to slow down the opponent. This isn’t a video game where you can just throw everything you’ve preached all week out the window and do a complete 180 on your gameplan. I get it, it’s frustrating, but it doesn’t mean the gameplan against Lsu won’t work perfectly and they have half the yards.

The zone coverage calls were to make AR beat us, and of course he played the game of his life. In my opinion we wasn’t running man, because we didn’t want a reoccurrence of Ole Miss last year. When you are manned up across the board and Db’s are chasing receivers you make it so hard on yourself to stop a running Qb. Everybody in the country all week long continuously said, Make AR beat you with his arm. Well, we ran the defense to force him to do that, and the kid played great. Hell, they have game plans and practice too. Be happy that we are 4-0 and are finding ways to win these games FINALLY.

I love volnation and I love this team, but people need to take a step back sometimes and chill. Enjoy the ride and the process, quit expecting everything to be perfect all the time in this sport. Sorry for the long post, GO VOLS!

Who are the 2022 Volunteers? A team that goes fast scores bunches of points, Right? Right? Then why did we do a 180 on offense in the 4th quarter and slow the team down and turn into 3 yds and a cloud of dust? And totally lose all continuity on offense almost costing us that game. Yes we played Zone to try and make AR-15 beat us and he damn near did, my issue with our defense was they did not try anything different all game long. We sat back in zone did not blitz and let AR-15 have all day to to throw the ball we never made him uncomfortable.
I will go back to my earlier statement "if you are going to do a 180 on offense, then why not at least try something different on defense"? It is a valid point and one our coaching staff have to look at.

Outside of the Utah game, our fans have been saying UF can't play, UF is garbage, Richardson can't throw the ball, Richardson is hurt and we were going to blow them off the field. They talked themselves into believing our team is way, way better than it really is. 4 games in and I'm still at a loss as to how those are our best on defense. You aren't going to win in this league with a defense like we have.....unless you have a scheme like we have. What Heupel and Co have done with this roster merits COY honors. He's getting the most out of a very average(at best) roster. I honestly thought we'd be 2-2 at this point. Never, ever did I consider 4-0. No way. I'm still scratching my head after watching the game again and seeing that defense as to how we won.

We need roster upgrades everywhere and in time, we'll have better players and more depth. Until then, enjoy the moment. Things are about to get just a tad more difficult with our schedule. We're 4-0, ranked and broke the streak. I'm pretty darned happy.

Trying to make a valid point about how crappy we played in one facet of the game, and not enjoying the spoils of a win against someone we haven't beat but 1 time in the past 17 tries before yesterday is completely ignorant of where we are 17 games into the CJH era. We all know that the defense is going to be a liability at times, but if we win it doesn't matter at all.

Stop trying to feel bad about a win.

I'll tell you why. We played to not lose! Not to won!! Call the late game defense zone or what ever, it was the old prevent defense. You know, the one that describes "not to lose".

I for one felt like Tim Banks blitzed quite a bit! I don’t think pressure was the issue. On offense, you have to have clock management, every team in the country at every level does. That’s not a 180 in gameplan. A 180 would be coming out in the second half and running I formation 😂

I do get your point though

Thats what I keep saying. If you want to be mad at something be mad at how we managed the game on offense in the last 4 minutes. That was the only thing I can criticize about the game. If we manage it like we should have, we keep possession of the ball and Florida's offense never sees the field again and we win 38-21. That nonsense at the end I really dont blame our defense on. It was because of how we managed the game offensively.

I do like his blitz packages. That’s a real threat. If we get our secondary in order, this team is scary for anyone.

This is the same group of fans who think we should be beating Alabama or Georgia on a regular basis. We are just a few years removed from losing to S Carolina, Mizz, and even Vandy most of the time. We were a .500 team for the last 10 years! Florida was trying to avoid their first 0-2 SEC record since ‘86. They were not going to roll over.

I agree. The fans should be excited for where this team is. We are barely removed from an all time program low. We were the laughing stock of college football and now have a respectable product on the field. Are we Alabama and Georgia? No. But we are making significant steps to get there. Be patient and enjoy the process.

yes, it was a 180. Did Steve Spurrier ever do "Clock Management" NO, he kept his foot on the gas. We should have beaten that Gator team by at least 3 scores and we had to have a hail marry stop at the end to win.

I agree, when we blitz it generally makes good things happen. Our d-backs need help and I cannot decide if I think we need better players back there or if it is coaching. Maybe it is both.

Tennessee defense was so inept they could not stop Florida until Florida would stop themselves, such that the Tennessee offense needed to stay on the field running the offense and the plays to move the ball not take time off the clock. Florida defense could not stop Tennessee, so they went 5 of 6 on 4th downs, including 4th and long from their own 20, they did not fear any aspect of Tennessee's defense. Richardson had more total yards than Hooker, looking at wide open receivers all day long.

We'll make LSU's quarterback the SEC player of the week next month as the defense is essentially non existent, not sure if it is the has been coaching the secondary, the playing talent, the scheme or just Heupel's lack of focus on a critical component of SEC football.

There's a lot of extreme mischaracterization of comments on Volnation following yesterday's game. I don't see a lot of people wanting to fire Heupel (Banks, yes) or saying the program is headed the wrong direction. My concerns from yesterday don't negate the fact that I'm happy with the win or thrilled by Hooker's incredible performance. We have the meat of the schedule in front of us. The Pitt and FL wins were HUGE, but both could have easily been losses because of this team's inability to put a game out of reach. When the outcome is decided by the final possession either in regulation or OT, you are asking for trouble. The "negative" comments are merely reflecting the fact that the defense we've seen so far just isn't going to get Ws consistently.

Definitely need better and FASTER players on the back end. Everyone was clamoring for Hadden to get the start, but when he was on an island vs Shorter in the 4th, Shorter just ran right by him. If AR hadn't underthrown the ball a bit forcing Shorter to pull up, he'd have scored easily. We need much, much better players on defense across the board. They need to be bigger, faster and much more physical.
