I cannot believe Lofton went out like this.

Lofton was the biggest overachiever in the history of the game. People have to realize what he's done in his career is amazing to say the least with his athletic ability. It doesn't take much of a player to cover him, and people just need to back off and think before posting.

I think lofton's main problem was our team's refusal to help him create a shot. there were barely any good screens set in the past month or so.
I have to agree with this, he hasnt been getting the looks he use to... but he hasnt been hitting the impossible shots that he trade marked at tennessee either

Pitino exposed bad bad PG play by the opposing team, as he should. We had JP throwing the ball in the stands. Ramar fumbling it through the lane. Passing it off to Tyler so he can run up and get a charge. Just can't win tourney ball with no PG.

Oh yeah tonight was a hell of a way for Jordan to go out to... not even see the floor... especially when the other 2 players at your position are not having stellar nights

Prince passing it off to Tyler Smith to break a press rather than dribbling it up was possibly the low point of the game.

Pearl really let us down tonight. How could he not take Lofton out of the game after about the 10th miss and an obvious limp. At least try something else if the plan isn't working. The plan seemed to be to drive it in and foul out Padgett. After three fourths of the game went by, you would think that Lofton and the rest of our nonballhandlers would have started shooting threes like they have all year. I kept thinking to myself, where is the team that I saw run up and down the floor all year and shoot a three pointer at the drop of a hat. They insisted on throwing the ball in all night and it wasn't working because we don't have guys who can finish around the rim. Other teams have at least one guy who can grab a loose ball and take it straight up and cram it in regardless of a panzy foul. Our guys seem to wait on a defender to get there and then either get it blocked or get fouled and miss their freethrows. I know the refs seemed to miss every call but Louisville didn't play that great tonight and they still kicked our rear ends. We proved the selection committee right tonight and we have no right to act like we were shunned by the low 2 seed. It was almost embarassing watching this team tonight. Since when have we turned the ball over that many times without really being pressured that much. We aren't a very smart team with the ball and it showed tonight. I sure hope Scotty Hopsin wasn't watching tonight. Steven Pearl getting on the court. Are you kidding me?????

And it happened more than once. One time Tyler passed it off to Crews in the lane and he walked. Pitino knew the weak point and preyed on it. Constantly 2 men on the guy bringing it up(the PG). He was more than happy to see it passed off to Tyler.

How Ironic that someone named "Titanic" started this thread.

I feel your pain man. Wish it could have been different.

I'm in no way criticizing Chris or blaming him for our loss. I'm just saying a guy who is going to be a legend in the annals of UT lore is not supposed to have a string of the worst games of his career at the end. It is not a fitting end.

I would submit that it is not a coincidence that Lofton's "string of the worst games of his career" just happened to coincide with Pearl being so frustrated at his PG play that he decided to bench both of them when he didn't have another PG on the roster. If we had a point guard, Lofton wouldn't have ended his career in such a slump.

Exactly. Witness: Lofton playing alongside Watson.

I just do not understand how someone so freaking clutch, who has played so well, can go out like he has this year. Even through most of the year he didn't play as well as he did last year, and the last two or three weeks he's been awful. I don't know if it was something in his personal life, or an injury, but something was wrong. It's very depressing. If we had lost and he had gone out in a blaze of glory it would be one thing, but he is a Tennessee icon, and that is not the way it was supposed to end.

At the risk of being banned, I gotta say go kill yourself.

OUR SEASON IS OVER! THEY PLAYED GREAT DEFENSE!
HE TRIED HIS BEST!

Dude, let us vent. This is not a Chris Lofton hate thread anyways. Everyone loves him. We are just sad the team did not perform well in his final game. Relax.

Not at all. Lofton has been the face of Tennessee basketball for most of his career here and has been more clutch more often than not. Anybody that wants to come down on that guy needs to take a good long nap.

I agree he's wrong, but wishing death on someone just seems a little harsh.

I'm just sick of the same people that prop up a crumbling program/coach turning around on a day like today and throwing stones at a program/coach that actually are making an effort to do something.

We all loved Erik Ainge too, but unfortunately we have seen this ending before. Hopefully Chris will be remembered for his better moments. Good luck to the seniors in all of their endeavors.

Erik Ainge wouldn't be as clutch as Chris Lofton in his wettest of dreams. Blasphemous to even put the two in the same sentence. I'll take Fulmer's comparison over the summer of Ainge being our Candace Parker as being more credible...

And no... we all don't love Ainge.

I wish that Ainge hadn't been brought up in a thread that Rasputin is posting in, because he hates Ainge as much as if the guy beat up his little sister.

That said, it's not a bad comparison. I walked out of the Georgia Dome last year thinking that maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing that we're going to start an unproven, unknown commodity at quarterback this fall. After watching the Vols' basketball postseason, I no longer think that losing Lofton is going to be the crippling blow that I did a few months ago.

I'm a Lofton fan; I respect the hell out of him for what he's been able to do given his physical limitations. But JaJuan Smith is going to be the bigger loss, I'm afraid.
