I just don’t believe there should be guaranteed money in these NIL deals. If a players comes in and doesn’t perform his/her name and likeness doesn’t have any value but if they perform on the field their value goes up. It should be a fair market deal the collective pays players for what their actual value is.

Most teams will go through it too, but the upper echelon teams seem to navigate it better or have so far. I wouldn't put us in that category yet. I still don't think we're on par from a depth perspective as UGA, Bama, Ohio St. Etc. Those teams lose good players but they aren't losing their best players, and they still have plenty of them to replace and recycle. I just don't think we're there yet and that was evident with the OL last year in the OU game where we had to play multiple back ups for an extended period of time.

Georgia has been going much heavier on State of Georgia players the last cycle or two, and it makes sense. You aren't immune to these shenanigans but they are less likely from the homegrown. If Nico was from Tennessee, he'd have had to think harder about doing what he has done even if he wanted to, due to fear of backlash back home. Regardless, I don't think now is the time to cut Spyre though.

UGA can go all GA in recruiting that they choose. The state produces the D1 talent, and still leaves enough for GT to do pretty decent.

And the market for advertising these athletes is bigger in a city such as Atlanta than it is in Knoxville so the collectives can offer more dollars.

We are pretty close to Atlanta too. When this program has been at it's best, it has recruited Atlanta well.

The answer to fix this is revenue sharing. The schools are getting rich off of the athletes, not the fans, yet we have been asked to pay them. If each school shared 50% of their revenue, it would make the nil dollars we are currently paying pocket change. These greedy universities are the problem. Google ut’s endowment.

UT's endowment has nothing to do with athletics. UTAD is separate.

And revenue sharing is going to open a entire new set of issues because of Title IX. If the money flows through the University instead of a collective, it's going to have to get equally split between men and women sports

I think the chances of us getting to the playoff again this year even had Nico stayed were slim. I wouldn't have been shocked had we made it but maybe a little surprised. Now with him gone and having to likely rely on a second year guy with very little experience, we could easily end up with 6 or 7 wins this year. If we can land a decent guy out of the portal maybe you get to 8, possibly 9.

Based on the play-calling last season, I can't bring myself to consider Nico much of a loss. He clearly wasn't trusted to run the offense.

They just gave $4-5M to a kid for a handful of snaps his freshman year and an average sophomore season. Sorry, but these kids aren’t worth that much money. And then they have the audacity to ask for money because of a TEAM accomplishment in making the CFP.

I agree with you. Why should these kids make more money in their college career than most Americans accumulate with 30 + years work? It seems they(Some not all) are trying to make enough money in college, so they never have to work again. I think they should be able to squeak by on a couple of hundred thousand a year.

When the players had been cut out for so long the response was always going to be huge once the door opened. It will likely be different in 5yrs once things stabilize

What/who the hell did Nico advertise for to be worth 4 mil. How many companies and/or events did he advertise for. Did having his name image and likeness associated with them and advertising their products/services increase their sales and market shares ? What was the risk exposure for these companies if Nico did something to tarnish his image that's now coming to life? Was the cost worth the benefit? Have these companies and events ever really existed or are they mythical ? Were these companies all located in around Knoxville? Was it Television commercials... appearances... bill boards... magazine ads ... etc ?

It's amazing people still don't get this. There are no enforceable rules because national rulemaking has essentially been determined to violate Antitrust. There will be no fix either until Congress steps in. I am usually the last person to want Congressional action but they are literally the only people who can make enforceable national rules at this point. Antitrust is their law, they can alter it. SCOTUS said as much.

Apparently, when they tried to give to do autograph sessions he would call his dad and his dad would yell at the people trying to get him to do the autograph event. Nico would end up leaving. The businesses need to be suing these kids if they're going to do this

LOL players were given one year scholarships, and told to hit the road if they didn't perform up to expectations, like a job, they were fired but they never got paid. The one year scholarship was only on the schools end though. Players couldn't leave without penalty, the school could fire them at any time. They don't and never have gotten "free" anything from the school. They got what they got in exchange for working their butts off. I've known a number of players over the years. They usually get up at 4am to workout for two hours every day before class. They went to class during the day and went and worked out for 2 hours every evening. That was in the off-season. During the season they did that and practiced 20 hours a week. Watched film when they were out of practice. Then they put in another full day on game day.

You're in the mindset that the Supreme Court scolded the NCAA over.

Are they being forced to play football? Or are they choosing to?
