I canceled my contribution to Spyre

We’re a Graham Mertz gifted fumble and Jalen Milroe not forcing a bad throw to Ryan Williams in the endzone away from having Butch Jones record last year and there’s no telling how much money we spent on NIL
Nothing like moral loss to help keep the negativity strong! Do you honestly think this staff is not better than the previous two coaching staffs in Knoxville?

Should we not count the multiple games in 98 where the breaks went our way?

Gotta admit, I am still doing the monthly thing-but I cut it way down a few months ago to basically the minimum. Very well may stop it entirely (TBD at this point)

The Matthews thing in December kinda left a really bad taste in my mouth honestly

Makes me sick to my stomach that some of my hard earned money donated in the last two years ended up in the pockets of Nico and crew.

i'm not opposed to NiL, but the numbers involved have gotten so far out of control...........

The players need to be able to afford to go grab a burger and see a movie if they want-not buy a new Porsche 911 GT3 each month.

And a pass away against Arkansas from a possible bye in the playoffs.Goes both ways if we're doing ifs and buts.

I
I disagree.

The problem is the NCAA. They foolishly put their head in sand and said we will not allow pay for play but you can give dollars and call it NIL.

IF the NCAA said we will now allow you to pay and for that pay you can ask for a kid to sign a contract wih a term on it, then the NCAA could have allowed schools to prevent a kid from transferring if the kid had a contract to play at your school.

The problem is the lack of contract. Very few corporate jobs paying 7 figures a year don’t have written contracts…..

Simple solution but as always the NCAA does 100% the wrong thing 100% of the time.
I disagree with you. The collective pays the player on the front end with an agreement they will honor a commitment to do events in order for collective to recoup their dollars. This is a recipe for disaster and Nico is a prime example. Make the player negotiate their own deals and then they are are only paid for what they do or do not want to do. In this scenario a player can get out and market his her name as much as they want or do not want to do.

Coaching wise, no question! Recruiting wise...ehhhh right now I'd say the jury is still out. Almost all of Heup's best players so far have been Pruitt recruits, including Hooker.

Georgia has been going much heavier on State of Georgia players the last cycle or two, and it makes sense. You aren't immune to these shenanigans but they are less likely from the homegrown. If Nico was from Tennessee, he'd have had to think harder about doing what he has done even if he wanted to, due to fear of backlash back home. Regardless, I don't think now is the time to cut Spyre though.
Yep, part of recruitment should be, and his family has been Vol fans their whole life they bleed orange. If its close on a recruit take the one with Tennessee ties. Also, if you're going for a generational QB do not follow the ones that rated Nico a 5 Star good QB but not a 5 Star IMO.

I've upped mine. We're doing huge things across all sports and have every major program in the championship discussion. Seems the investment by Vol fans is paying dividends.

I'm personally baffled that so many people throw fits at the very foundation of America. It's pure capitalism that the players are making that much. Everyone should earn what someone is willing to pay them for their services. If a player can get someone to pay him 2 million, that's what he's worth. If that player asks for 4 and doesn't get it, he wasn't worth it and overplayed his hand. The market corrected itself.

I’ve never contributed. If they can’t get big money boosters to give enough money then they shouldn’t expect your average Joe to cover the backend. We already have to pay for ridiculous ticket, concession, and tv/streaming prices (and hotels for those that drive out of town), so I’m not about to fork over money to give to some childish family like the Iamaleava’s. I donated to Zakai’s family for them to get a new home and turns out that was a great decision by our fanbase because I love that kid. I’m not donating for some kids to play sports though.

Didn’t we exploit a loophole to help create this mess? Serious question. I thought we were the first or very close to the first to have a collective.

That is what worries me the most. Add to that seeming inability to develop OL or WRs and no sense at all this concerns Heupel enough to do anything.

When this broke I hoped we would jump on it and bring in another starter but in my heart I knew Merk was gonna start after another “aw shucks” presser from Heupel.

No sense of urgency. No sense that changes need to happen. Just a desire to stay with the status quo, not take any significant action, and hope it works out.

Good golly I hope 🤞 Im wrong. Otherwise this is gonna be a long season

Bad thing is everyone ( except players ) says this can't work because you have kids jumping teams 2 times in a 4 month window with no obligations on the players part. But no one in congress, or the NCAA is offering anything to fix this mess. Can you imagine being a coach today getting commitments in Dec and losing them a few months later and start the search all over for players---of of them with their hands out for $$$

Why make a thread? Is that helpful to the program?

I mean I’m good with whatever decision you make with your money. I’m sure a few others have had the same feeling.
It's a message board...if you don't like it then transfer your likes to me and never come back......... 😁

Teams like Texas, Oregon- (NIKE money) will end up with a lot of players.

Oregon is slowly starting to run out of the big $$$ it once got with Phil Knight getting older.

You are right about Texas (as well as A&M although A&M keeps forking over the $$$ with 0 results). I would also say Ohio State and Michigan tend to get the big time recruits and pay out. Notre Dame is also one to watch.

I never have and never will contribute. If these kids want to make 2 million they need to get out and earn it by marketing their name, likeness and image. NIL was never meant to pay the players it was meant to all allow them to profit from their name and image.
That's exactly how it's working, so what's the contention? NIL was absolutely meant to pay players - as the schools cannot pay players - and they hire agents such as Spyre to market their potential appeal, directly tied to their athletic potential. Their target market is the region of the school and their alumnus.

This is the issue IMO. A contract must have mutual consideration to be enforceable. These are one-way streets where the players apparently are exempt from any obligations.
