It's Trump who brought this racist behavior to the forefront: "Build a wall, get these mexicans out of here", "I'm banning transgender people from the military", "there's fine people in that group of white supremacists", "I'm pardoning the overtly racist Joe Arpaio".

That's YOUR president, that's YOUR racist commander in chief, that's YOUR nazi-esque POTUS. Congratulations on supporting and defending a completely filthy, bigoted, narcissistic, racist, white supremacist, gluttonous piece of s*it.

Arpaio pardon paperwork is finished and talking points have been distributed to surrogates, so its just a matter of when Trump signs it.

I'm not sure that a president has ever pardoned someone for criminal contempt of court, for knowingly and intentionally violating a federal judge's order just because he disagreed with the politics of it. That's a pretty profound thing to do.
I'm not sure a president has ever pardoned someone for the things Chelsea Manning did either.

My objection is not legal. He can do it.

My objection is, moral, philosophical, and political.

I don't think Arapio should be in jail. Maybe a weekend followers by probation. But he should have received some punishment for his contempt.

Now, instead of "the system" properly embarrassing him for his decision to play by his own rules, in direct contravention of a court order, he's going to strut around and claim vindication.

This is not good. It's just more of Trump sticking a thumb in the eye of the judiciary over political statements.

He isn't a Sheriff any longer. He's 85 years old. Most will have forgotten about him in about three weeks time.

Good grief, let it go man. At your age, you get cranky and it's unhealthy when you lose sleep worrying over things like this. Drink some prune juice, catch a nap and watch the squirrels in your backyard or something.

Do not, EVER, belittle nap time. I cherish it.

This barely moves the needle. Old Joe should have been punished, but it's not likely that stripped of his power he's likely to be a problem moving forward. Personally, i think the stress of being charged, tried, convicted and fired is enough punishment for an old man.

Exactly. Now go get a bag of unsalted peanuts and feed the squirrels in your backyard.

I have twice had squirrels burrow into my chimney. Had to hire a trapper @ $400 per to come out, trap them, and move them out east. Can't just kill them off here.

Gas fireplace?

If so, just light it up every once in a while like once a month or so. Keeps birds and squirrels from moving in.

If it's a wood fireplace, burn paper every month for the same result.

It's not the racists like Trump and many others who are the problem, you contend, but the people who call out racists, eh? Only in the South!

Arpaio didn't just commit a crime--like stealing a car or embezzling money or whatever. He intentionally and over time defied a federal judge and a federal court order. There's a difference. He abused his office, committed illegal acts, was ordered to stop by a federal court and he defied the court. No wonder Trump likes him! Trump is an authoritarian who has contempt for our judicial system--thinks he's above the law. He's not complied with conflict of interest laws related to the presidency--or the emoluments clause in the Constitution. Also, it is standard procedure, protocol, to have the Justice Dept. vet possible pardon cases. Did Trump do that? No. We can only hope that the craven Republicans screw up enough courage to impeach this disgraceful president--but that is too much to ask of them, I'm afraid.

"Not only is a pardon a blow to those victimized by Arpaio’s punitive policies, it sends a message to every police officer in this country: you can do anything you want to the people you are supposed to protect. You can jail them illegally, hurt them, even endanger their lives and Donald Trump will let you get away with it. A pardon for Arpaio gives every venal cop a license to abuse." - Kevin Boyd

Since my patient is sleeping and I'm bored at work. Here are some of the types of people Obama pardoned.

Impressive copy and pasta but you could have just said "buuuuttt obama.'

We get it, you guys are still using obamas BS to justify trumps BS.

I could explain to you why this is ironic but for those of you who keep trying to justify bad behavior with more bad behavior probably wouldn't understand the explanation.

I've made fun of the But Obama crowd as much as anyone but I've come to the realization that this will never end until the voters of the party in charge says shut up about the past and move forward. I'm talking about both parties, I brought up Bush during Obamas 1st year but that was stupid. Obama was in charge and needed to own the issues at hand. Now trump is in charge and he needs to do the same

I get the hypocrisy aspect, however it moves beyond that to the point where some use past behaviors that they despise as a basis of defense as justification for the (literally) same behavior. The partisan cognitive dissonance is staggering.
