true, i just dont know if the pieces are here yet... on the fulmer thing, i dont think it would of made a difference if fulmer got another year or not... but it was his time to go..

It should have been done better. By that I mean don't oust a coach and rush to a hire. Hamilton should have had feelers out to guage interest and if there was none,he should have talked with Fulmer and told him that the next season would be his last and found the right coach.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. Things on the hill have been rough to say the least, but it will turn around.
Fulmer needed to go.....He was not doing the things he needed to do to keep us consistently at the top. Without the NC he would have been gone sooner! Next came Lane Kiffin, a great hire (AT THE TIME). He is a great coach. Not one of you were upset with the swagger he brought back to the program. He had a great staff and the future looked awfully bright.....and then he SCREWED us! Who knew? And then came Dooley. Would he have been our first choice to lead the program? Probably not....but he has got the program at least headed in the right direction, IMO. Some of the garbage has been cleaned up, high quality players are on the team, and recruiting has been a plus. We will be back! Randy Shannon would make a great DC for us, but it will not be the end of the world if he is not hired.

ETN talent has alot to do with that and its a BS conference. He is a cheater and will always be a cheater.Why were we being investigated again? oh yeah nm.

Instant gratification is never a good fix. Rarely do you see over night fixes in football. The way UT has lost its traction is something that should take a decade and a half to clean up, and progress cannot be made if coaches are repeatedly switched in and out. I am not saying Dooley is the guy to turn this program around, but he at least be given the opportunity to give the program some momentum. If that is all that is gained from his tenure at UT then I consider him a successful coach. One day my friends we will achieve the status we had in the nineties. Until then, the best thing you can do for the program is be supportive to both the players and the coaches.

And **** it, be excited for whomever is hired as DC. I am sure whoever it is, they were chosen for a reason.

Fact is, rebuilding is not for the faint of heart and Count's right....we're undertaking a rebuild from the ground up. The culmination of events of the last 6-7 years is what got us here; i.e. Fulmer's lackadaisical recruiting efforts, Kiffin leaving, players leaving, Dooley fielding a team with barely MAC-level talent, etc. etc.--those issues are not DD's fault, period.

Say what you will about his record, where he came from, his loss to KY, the perception of the program....they're all fair criticisms, but the fact remains he was the only one who wanted the job.

The Clay Travis theory of loading a dump truck full of $$$ and dumping it on [insert elite coach's name here] lawn is NOT REALISTIC, at least not respective to the events in Jan 2010.

If Dooley fails, he'll have at the very least restocked the cupboards with SEC-level talent on the two deep and make this job attractive again for the caliber of coach that everyone wants.

Personally, I'd rather see Dooley succeed then have to go through another coaching change, but that's my opinion. I like stability and I'd rather the current coach at the helm right the ship instead of bringing in someone else...but either way, I just want to WIN, and if that takes a new coach then so be it.

Right on Count. Where we were and the path to improvement in rebuilding the disaster this program is in is what's important. Rebuilding will always have big setbacks and this one is no different. The loss to KY, losing Bray, Hunter, Janzen Jackson and many others were huge bumps in the road. Losing Wilcox and especially Sirmon hurt. We will probably lose some recruits and have some other unforeseen problems.

The first order of business is to recruit some good players and build depth and experience in the roster. At some point, the coaching staff needs to be stabilized to get consistency. Both of these tasks will experience some ups and downs before we get to where we want to be. I hate to say it, but it is still going to take more time. Reality is reality.

The good thing is that the young players who are now juniors and sophomores have a lot of playing time and have learned under fire. We are bringing in more good players this year to build depth and grow into their roles. We just need more of them to win championships.

I know man, Shame on us all for hating what UT football has become...We should all just embrace it and just smile everytime We lose a game and stand up and shout at the top of our lungs...YOU BASTARDS WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR! :salute:

First point: agree.

Second: not so much. Who else wanted the job? Everybody...everybody either said through an intermediary they weren't interested or outright stated they were not in contention for the position.

I have no insider knowledge whatsoever but I guarantee you coaches took one look at the roster and declined immediately. Calhoun, Sumlin, Bronco, et al....they'd all leave better situations to come take over a dumpster fire.

EDIT: Just to clarify...I am NOT defending the hire, just stating facts.

All great coaches started off at the bottom. No one wanted them and they had growing pains. Just sucks waiting for them to get really good.
