I am infuriated about my game day experience

Here's an idea, make the 1st row of the lower and upper decks 'sitters only' so they can all be together in one big lazy line.

What about the disrespect you showed the middle aged couple that wanted to sit down to where they could rest and watch the game? See, it works both ways.:eek:k:

You can sit and rest to watch the game just fne from your living room chair.

I agree with this 100 per cent!
Then I'll give you the same response I gave the goob that you are replying to.

Its a contest, not an event. Its a violant game. You want an event go to a Neil Diamond concert. You want to sit on your ass and yell "go" every now and again stay at home, you can do the same thing from your couch and get much more enjoyment out of it.

The thread starter didn't want to call the shots, he just wanted to enjoy the game as it should be, not sitting on his ass and complaining because someone is actually reacting as they should.

Its a violant exiciting game that should and does evoke emotions from fans.

Its just plain stupid for anyone to go to a college football game and not expect the people around them to react to the game in an emotional way. Cheering, yelling and stading up are all emotional responses and anyone that goes should understand this and if they don't then they are idiots. Period.

I didn't take the time to read all the replies after the first page but I just have to give my opinion on this subject.

Me and my dad often go to concerts and sporting events together. I am one of the ones that complains when folks stand up BUT let me tell you why.......My dad isn't able to stand up for long periods of time due to rod/pins/screws in his legs and ankles. So it really irks me when we pay good money for seats and due to some people standing up he isn't able to see what's going on. I've checked into the handicapped seating but since he's not in a wheelchair he's not eligible for those seats. The person that started this thread needs to realize that yeah they have the right to stand up but they also should show respect to those around them.

Maybe the couple complaining had health issues that doesn't allow them to stand. If you give respect then you get respect back. I'm just curious if the thread starter and his friend were drinking....maybe that's why they were treated the way they were. drinking/drunk=beligirent(sp?) behaviour.

I do complain and I've been cussed at but I don't care....I admit I stand up from time to time if the folks around me do too(touchdown, etc...) but then I sit right back down as I know what it's like not to be able to see.

I personally would LOVE it if there was a standing/no standing section at a football game/concert.

A football game against a top 10 team is not a place to "sit and rest to watch the game."

Agreed. Similar situation happened to me some years ago, ushers came down and tried to work the situation out. The couple behind us were very upset because of all the money they had donated to the univeristy and the legacy of the tickets they held, I did understand their point. I suggested that we swap seats, my seats were directly infront of them. The lady wanted no part of this, she kept talking about how much these seats cost and she was not trading with anyone. I was at a loss....I thought for a moment as she was yelling at the usher, turned and told her that my season tickets cost just as much as her's and that I would be happy to trade for the remainder of the game, but I would stand and cheer when appropriate. She started using profanity, I was with my 12 year old daughter...we left our seats. I swapped with my wife and mother in law, they were two levels higher...it was death from above. I gave my wife a heads up on the situation and told her to be sensitive about the guests behind her. My mother in law chewed her up and spit her out.

The game was Arkansas, National Championship season...
Glad I did not leave the stadium.

Ah the old sit down and be quiet thread. It had been a while since we'd had one so the time was right. Nothing like a "young blood" vs. "blue hair" verbal joust. Funny thing though....I currently sit near one of the student sections and above the band area and as the third quarter was drawing down, I see this mass exodus of fans and 99% of 'em were young 'uns(most definitely under 30). With 3 minutes left in the 4th, I had nothing but 40+ in my section and within eye shot. All the kids had departed for parties and better times obviously. Guess they were all "yelled" out? Yeah...the problem with Neyland are the older fans. Uh huh.

Oh...and for the record, I've been attending UT games since the 60's and I've never...NEVER....witnessed anyone being told to sit down much less be quiet and this is my 4th section at Neyland. In my section, if the folks in front of you stand...you stand. If they sit, I sit. If something happens, I jump to my feet instinctively as do all the other fans. I've never felt the need to think about it or have anyone question it.....and yes I did spend two seasons on the west side with the so-called "blue hairs" before circumstances forced a move. This is all so....well...ridiculous. No offense intended to the OP.

I see "standing" and "no standing" sections in neyland stadium's future ..

If you want to stand the whole game then thats the way it should be...separate part of the stadium for standing room only. .....most people don't want to stand the whole game....when they get down in the red zone or on a kickoff ok ...but to think people want to stand all the time is nuts. people of all ages go to the game and it would be hard for some to stand....gotta think about others to.

My question is if your a true UT fan how do you sit during a game? Even from the comfort of my home I cannot sit and watch the game. I am standing, and yelling my lungs out. Most UT fans today could care less if we win. They go to the game as a social event and thats bull ****.

How dare you! Why would you think it is ok to come in our forum with your well-thought out and neatly presented argument? You are a disgrace to Vol fans everywhere and should be ashamed of yourself. It is our right to whine & moan every chance we get about how the man is keeping us down. Why don't you take your civility and class to Vanderbilt or Stanford where it will be appreciated. There's no room for you here.

Sorry, I already gave out the internet BS award for today. Try again tomorrow. Sit up straight young man, you're slouching.

I will now award the internet "You Think You Know More Than You Actually Do" Award for Today to you, Marevul Mafia. Apparently you actually know little to nothing about the actual physics of sound. I'm calling BS on your BS call

My brother is the OPer. We come from a long line of "standers"... Last year, my 64-year-old Dad had quad-bypass surgery on his heart in June. He went to 3 games last year and never ONCE complained about a blocked view. If he wanted to see, he stood up.

I do understand that some fans are physically not able to stand for the entire game, but you have a choice, just like everyone else - #1 shell out the money for a ticket to the game and enjoy it for the actual atmosphere of the game (which includes screaming fans who may block your view from time to time). That's what you are paying for! or #2 watch the game from the comfort of your home and see all the action, complete with commentary from some overpaid ESPN commentators. If I had paid money to go to the game yesterday and had been told by rude ushers that I needed to sit down, they would have had to drag me out kicking and screaming. My brother has more self-control than me.

Chief you do NOT have to be in a wheelchair to get a handicap seating pass. Call the ticket office. I have gotten them when my daughter was recovering from knee surgery and was on crutches or in a brace. All you should need is a handicap parking excuse

I agree with this post. Is it ok to stand and cheer when the team makes a big play..of course. But it is also wrong to just stand the whole game and block the person sitting behind you from seeing the game. There are SEATS for a reason. I also agree with the post that said you CAN cheer while sitting can't you? Alot of people after spending the whole game day experience walking, and what not....don't care to stand for the whole 4 hours during the game. They paid for a SEAT. What I would suggest in the future is if you want to stand for the whole game find another group close by that is standing...and find someone looking for a SEAT to swap with. JMO Go Vols!

Are you serious? So now cheering for a team is disrespecting others? Get a life.

Im in the camp that thinks you should stand the entire game and yell at the top of your lungs. Having said that, I have lived by the unwritten rule of if someone in front of you stands you stand, if not you sit your ass down and be respectful to those behind you.

You talk as if standing makes u a better fan,u are obviously one of the halfa$$ fans who r usally gone haxperiancelfway through the third quarter. My old azz was a fan while u were fillin your diaper.I have peripheral neropothy in my legs due to an on the job accident.I cant stand for a length of time. I still have the right to see the game as much as u.The game experiance is different at home. Many of us have been contributing to this program longer than u.:moon2::moon2:

Standing dosent make you a better fan, but not complaining when other people stand does. You have the same right as everyone else does to see the game, and if someone is standing in front of you you have three choices 1. stand up. 2. watch the jumbotron. 3. be a jerk and ask them to sit down. I said before if you can walk all the way from your car to your seat than it shouldnt hurt you to stand for a few minutes. If you cant manage that, and im not being a smart alec' get handicapp seats around the bottom of the upperdeck and sit all you want. ps. I never leave games early ,but if your neuropathy is that bad, im sure you break for your car at the first chance you get, I know how you seniors hate getting stuck in traffic.

Not when it affects some else's right to see the game. Your choice ends when it affectes others with the same right to see the game.

He wasn't holding a garbage bag over their head so they couldn't see; although, he probably should have. The can see if the STAND.

As the person who was sitting beside the OP... this entire situation was bull. Not only do we have a right as fans to stand, we were mistreated to an extreme by both the ushers and an officer from KPD. I attempted to ask, after we were told to sit down, why we were told that fans had the right to stand several weeks earlier when 2 gator fans were standing and cursing the entire game in front of a couple of kids. Ushers that day said they could do nothing about. I tried to ask what had changed since that point in time. I was cursed at, threatened, and spit on by the officer. I went and asked an usher in another section as was told that I was free to stand in my seat.

The thing that bothered me the most about this... my wife and I, plus the OP and his buddy were all in our seats when the clock hit 00:00. The people that complained about us... long gone. Ask yourself who are the more loyal fans here.
