same here . I used to torture myself after a loss, esp a big game or an upset .I wonder how many of you have as well. After a loss, I used to watch every press conference especially from the head coach, every columnist article I could find and then call in talk shows for the next few days trying to hear opinions on what went wrong.
Since 2023, after a loss, I quit listening or watching a single thing about the previous game and it’s not that I forced myself not to, just didn’t have the stomach for the why or excuses. After a loss, just a big disconnect. Not gonna wast any more days on being miserable after a loss especially like last Saturday’s lack of effort. Anybody else moved into this mode?
Out of curiosity, how old are you? I got that feeling at the 48 range.I wonder how many of you have as well. We were on campus at the same time. I graduated Dec, 1994.I’m 53 and was at UT from ‘90-‘94. For the most part losses were few & far between. I was like most of you and the losses hurt.
Nowadays, especially for most of this century, UT has been irrelevant. I still go to games but if UT loses it doesn’t have any bearing on my life. Carry on!
I think it's part of getting older. You realize it's just a dumb game and there's much more to life. Yeah losing sucks but I'm not gonna let it ruin my weekend. Maybe my night, but, a wise man once said, snap and clear.I wonder how many of you have as well. I don’t see any future where we compete with at the top of the league. Hope I’m wrong.Tennessee is the 4th or 5th best team in the conference year in/ year out. Once or twice in a lifetime the stars may align and they could win it all. I've seen one championship, I probably won't see another.
It is what it is
Aging and a growing family has a way of changing perspectives. College sports are entertainment and down in the pecking order for most of us.
I still enjoy it, but it’s a blip on the radar whether we win or lose.
Careful now. That kind of talk isn’t good for raising NIL money or keeping ticket holders happy paying talent fees so the players can make our lives better. The older I get the more I have come to the realization that it is beyond ridiculous to let how a bunch of teenage boys perform on the field affect whether I have a good week or a bad week. I have learned to simply enjoy and appreciate any day that I get to watch my football, baseball or basketball Vols compete!!
In the sec if the 2nd and 3rd team is running the score up more power to them. That goes for my Vols as well, if we aren’t stopping the bench we need to be exposed so we can get better. That’s just how I see it. I have never been a complainer when we have gotten drilled, it’s our job to stop em. Now a team playing the first string up 40 in the 4th, yeah then I am like okay I will remember this next time. GBOMakes me wish I’d gone into coaching after a loss where we should have played much better than we did. I would run up the score as much as possible against our rivals, but, I’m an a$$hole like that.
On board with you.I've never been one to "watch press conferences," or listen to podcasts, radio etc.
There was a time in my life where a Vols win or loss meant a lot.
Thankfully I've matured (LOLOLOLOL) to the point (for the most part), where I don't get too emotional* after the fact.
*You're damn right I will during the game!!!!!
Yes, about 4.5yrs ago, I discovered that the baseball and basketball teams exist.I wonder how many of you have as well.
