I’ve changed over the years

Hah, I love YouTube. I don't watch the games we will probably lose. If we win, I can watch it on YouTube. If we lose, then I don't have to waste my time. I didn't watch the Bama game. Went to bed and slept well. When I found out we lost, I didn't bother watching any replay. I still have yet to see a single play from last week's game.

I wonder how many of you have as well. After a loss, I used to watch every press conference especially from the head coach, every columnist article I could find and then call in talk shows for the next few days trying to hear opinions on what went wrong.

Since 2023, after a loss, I quit listening or watching a single thing about the previous game and it’s not that I forced myself not to, just didn’t have the stomach for the why or excuses. After a loss, just a big disconnect. Not gonna wast any more days on being miserable after a loss especially like last Saturday’s lack of effort. Anybody else moved into this mode?
same here . I used to torture myself after a loss, esp a big game or an upset .

I may read a couple articles or visit this site, but that’s about it.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? I got that feeling at the 48 range.
Dooley/ Pruitt improved my golf and the vibes around the house on the weekend.
I just want to see 1 more Natty
I believe I will

As I got older, losses would affect me for that night and then I'd move on the next day.

Once my dad died, another UT grad and hardcore Tennessee fan, I don't really care about losses that much anymore.

I just enjoy Tennessee being good. I still watch the games and get into them, it's just different.

I’m 53 and was at UT from ‘90-‘94. For the most part losses were few & far between. I was like most of you and the losses hurt.

Nowadays, especially for most of this century, UT has been irrelevant. I still go to games but if UT loses it doesn’t have any bearing on my life. Carry on!
We were on campus at the same time. I graduated Dec, 1994.

I took a yr off after graduating from high school in 1989 in Rke, VA.

I transferred to UT in 1992.

I think it's part of getting older. You realize it's just a dumb game and there's much more to life. Yeah losing sucks but I'm not gonna let it ruin my weekend. Maybe my night, but, a wise man once said, snap and clear.

Tennessee is the 4th or 5th best team in the conference year in/ year out. Once or twice in a lifetime the stars may align and they could win it all. I've seen one championship, I probably won't see another.
It is what it is
I don’t see any future where we compete with at the top of the league. Hope I’m wrong.

Aging and a growing family has a way of changing perspectives. College sports are entertainment and down in the pecking order for most of us.

I still enjoy it, but it’s a blip on the radar whether we win or lose.

When the Vols used to lose in certain sports or certain games I used to feel like someone was throwing darts and I was the dart board.

The Lady Vols losses to UCONN in the championships when Tarasi was there was particularly excruciating.

Between the football team languishing in mediocrity for about 15 years and the Lady Vols becoming tumbleweed under Holly I changed to where losses bother me that day for a while then I just move on. The only thing I do is ignore the ESPN and SEC Network highlights that are on repeat. I post about 25% as much as I used to.

As been said, it goes back to reprioritizing.

I like to read and absorb as much as possible after a win and this site is my primary source, but after a loss I avoid this place for a week to shield myself from all the negativity. I don't mind calling a spade a spade but the posters here are usually overwhelming and it just ain't healthy to read all that crap.

It's a defense mechanism formed from scar tissue. It's not really a healthy way of dealing with setbacks in life, but since sports is beyond our control, it's fine/good. Just not a good idea to use this approach on real (important) problems in the real world.

The older I get the more I have come to the realization that it is beyond ridiculous to let how a bunch of teenage boys perform on the field affect whether I have a good week or a bad week. I have learned to simply enjoy and appreciate any day that I get to watch my football, baseball or basketball Vols compete!!
Careful now. That kind of talk isn’t good for raising NIL money or keeping ticket holders happy paying talent fees so the players can make our lives better.

I've never been one to "watch press conferences," or listen to podcasts, radio etc.

There was a time in my life where a Vols win or loss meant a lot.

Thankfully I've matured (LOLOLOLOL) to the point (for the most part), where I don't get too emotional* after the fact.

*You're damn right I will during the game!!!!!

Oh man, I used to get upset! Haha, it's funny to me now. After Kiffin I enjoyed a lot of days at the lake and would check in from time to time. I got to see the 98 team with my dad so I have that. But, I would love to get at least one more in my lifetime.

Growing up going to the games in the late 70s through the 80s, attending UT and into the 90s I just wanted them to win it all. They did. The next day my life was exactly the same as it was before. Then you start to get mad about 10-2. Then they suck for 15 years. Just enjoy the climb out of the hole and watching good football. Especially when like me you gotta drive 7 hrs to the game. If they lose grill a steak and enjoy it!

I started feeling this way after the Arkansas game last year. It just hit me that no matter how good of a team we have, we will figure out a way to screw it up. It was just whatever after that. I watch games I think we should win and find other things to do on games I think we won't. Its not worth the stress.

Makes me wish I’d gone into coaching after a loss where we should have played much better than we did. I would run up the score as much as possible against our rivals, but, I’m an a$$hole like that.
In the sec if the 2nd and 3rd team is running the score up more power to them. That goes for my Vols as well, if we aren’t stopping the bench we need to be exposed so we can get better. That’s just how I see it. I have never been a complainer when we have gotten drilled, it’s our job to stop em. Now a team playing the first string up 40 in the 4th, yeah then I am like okay I will remember this next time. GBO

On board with you.

I guess I quit watching press conferences long about Heupel's 2nd or 3rd year when I realized there was going to be little to no information divulged...so whats the point.

Yes, about 4.5yrs ago, I discovered that the baseball and basketball teams exist.
